  1. I've fished it. Definitely chose to go during a thunderstorm to avoid detection. Yes, lightning is dangerous... but there are big stupid trout in there.
  2. I was at the kings two weeks ago and it was a little higher than when i'd been there before (not sure what "normal" is). We caught some nice fish but our float was pretty short.
  3. I really just went with size on that one- I've never seen a white that big. I know the smaller ones are really hard to tell apart.
  4. Wish I did- but no I am stuck with nothing but waders at the moment. I caught that one at an extremely popular bank fishing spot. It wasnt crowded though- probably because of the crappy water and it was a work day. I like the off color water up there as long as it isnt too high, they get spooky in the clear water.
  5. I could tell this was a hybrid cuz it was A. too big to be a white and B. has the tell-tale broken lines on the side. - it is really hard to tell with smaller hybrids sometimes though.
  6. Pretty good hybrid on a grey over white clouser. Its exciting when you're catching white bass and suddenly your drag is screaming.
  7. I think there are at least two schools of thought- tons of smaller boxes or a few big ones. I have consolidated all mine to a single box per species and I still don't use nearly all of the flies in them. Dang it- I guess the 6 patterns that work is probably the way to go.
  8. Ah, the power of the internet. Beautiful.
  9. 7wt will do it. i like black flies for carp because they work for me. Anything with lead eyes and lots of movement- size 6 hooks work well. Key for me is finding feeding carp- definitely the hardest part in my area at least.
  10. I bought this blank thinking I was going to build my dream 6 weight... but alas I also bought a house recently and I just do not have the time or money to put this bad boy to use. It is still brand new, in the package, with the warranty card and in a cardboard tube. The retail on these blanks is somewhere around $370 to $400 depending on where you buy it. I'd be willing to sell this one for a little less than that but I'd like to get at least most of my money back. Blank is black and is incredibly slender and cool looking. If anyone is interested- let me know and I can post up a picture.
  11. Rio gold is really good. The Rio Grand is supposed to be heavier in order to help load fast action rods. I have it on my 6wt and it is a little too much- but the rod is built on a Batson forecast blank and is more "medium fast." That TFO Pro is pretty fast- I built one for my dad (5 wt) and he got a 5wt Rio Gold line for it- seems like it needs a heavier line to me but he loves it.
  12. I've tied on a dyna king and it was really nice with small hooks. I agree- you either have a defective part or something else is wrong. Also, stop bend your B10s! Send them to me and I'll try to get a fish to bend them for you!
  13. Alright- Im going to the dollar store then! That last picture is great man! And yes he is half lab half poodle, a "labradoodle" if you will- that was a compromise between me wanting a real dog and my wife having dog allergies. Turns out shes mostly allergic to the dog's spit- not the coat.
  14. Its a normal yarn egg tied on a jig head- usually 1/100th. They work. Tried this antron egg method with "congo hair" and it makes a great looking egg fly- glad you posted that mic.
  15. Sounds like great advice. Thanks mic.
  16. Thanks fellas! He is a good one- already learned to sleep in his kennel (just for now) and he is almost house broken. Key word is almost- he peed on my carpet about 10 minutes ago. Oh well, I would pee anywhere and everywhere if I could too. Any tips on keeping him from nibbling/chewing everything?
  17. I want to name him Wulff- wife wants to name him Wilson- either way, I'm pretty pumped. To be fair, I did get him for my wife for her birthday...
  18. I was kidding- for the record. I own a couple .22s and a shotgun (not exactly a bad-A arsenal)- and I was raised to ALWAYS mind where my barrel is pointed and to shoot safely. I don't see why a gun safety class in school is a bad idea if the school is ok with it. They teach sex ed and drug education- plus evolution, Keynesian economics and all kinds of other drivel, why not something practical?
  19. I agree but the business excuse i had for making the drive on a weekday got canceled. Still sore about it. I've got 4-wheel drive- I could've made it.
  20. Had a trip planned for tomorrow... can't believe I picked the one day it is supposed to snow 2-4 inches.
  21. I built a bird sanctuary for mine- don't do that- it was lame and everyone got poison ivy.
  22. I second the Danvise- I have upgraded from mine but there was really no reason for that other than aesthetics. The jaws are a little soft but they are also only $10 to replace.
  23. My favorite setup is my 7wt with a slow full sinking line- 1fps- but a 5wt will work. All you need are a few clousers- but "jiggies" work well and so do almost all small baitfish patterns. You can catch them on a popper sometimes when they are feeling frisky. Successful clouser colors= grey over white, chart. over white, plain white- etc. Make sure your clouser has just a little flash in it. Cant wait for white bass- coming up quick.
  24. Dang it I thought I was the only one to figure this out.
  25. Man, I just use the hook itself to dig a slit that goes about 3/4 up the body from the back to the lip. I dig it deep enough that I can poke the hook out of the slit and that is what makes the hole- balsa is so soft you do not even need a drill. I cover all the flaws and the slit up with standard drywall spackle and then I sand all that down smooth. I use superglue to secure everything. The hard part is the glue- because you have to slide the hook through with glue on it or try to squeeze the glue in after the hook is in place- either way its a pain. I stole some grey fingernail polish from my wife so I slather that junk on there and then do some marker art and voila. Last step is the tail and the eyes and a final coat of clear Sally Hansens.
