  1. Wow, I'm going to have to step up my game... that fly looks dirty.
  2. K I'm in. Not sure which fly ill tie but I think it will be on a size 2 streamer hook and involve a craft fur head.
  3. My father and I were discussing this terrible stuff yesterday. We decided that there is a much lower probability of a concealed carrier at a premier showing of Batman at midnight. We both felt that your typical concealed carrier either does not carry in a movie theater, or does not go to midnight premiers of movies. The audience was probably mostly kids, women and adolescents. Plus a crowded movie theater would be a tough place to mount any sort of defense with all the seats and rails. Such a sad thing. Those poor families need serious prayer.
  4. I might be talked into this swap but I couldn't start til after next weekend on the flies... would that be too late?
  5. I know the feeling... its a sick compulsion. My boxes are so full I usually cannot find the 3-4 effective patterns that I regularly use for all the junk flies.
  6. Forget the box, I'm looking at all them bass flies...
  7. Those look really good man- most of the homemade boxes I have seen look like a mix between an IED and a scrap booking "treasure box." (as my mom calls it)
  8. A. I have seen that fly fished and it is a monster. B. Your version looks incredible. C. Clear Cure Eyes are sick. D. I need to stop staring at BAR Exam multiple choice questions and tie some flies. Correct answer: E. All of the above. (they always get you with the all of the above answer)
  9. Never used bait but my favorite fly is just a short shank hook with dumbell eyes and a black marabou plume tied in like a woolly. Hackle might help but they seem to like it with just the marabou. Also do some with black rubber legs and they work too.
  10. Just made a couple- really cool, thanks for the link.
  11. I used a big skagit tip (i think) occasionally that sinks like a rock. Somebody gave it to me (I think its Rio)- but I use that on the end of floating lines occasionally and it is a bear to cast... but it does work... did I mention I am a tight wad?
  12. Well, I'd have to say its more your line choice plus your rod choice. You can get the best line in the world but you have to have the right rod to throw it- its the combination that's important. Rio Clouser line is baller.
  13. I like to fish DDs on the White with a 350 grain rio striper liner when the water is up. It gets em down pretty good. Biggest brown I've ever caught came on an olive DD.
  14. I just got a tfo bvk 6wt recently and its a great little bass stick. 7wt might be better actually.
  15. Always had good luck with adams/parachute adams, small hoppers, ants and beetles.
  16. This made me laugh. Awesome.
  17. MFC's hooks are pretty legit- I would say they're a bit better than Allen. Allen's saltwater hooks aren't bad though and MFC doesn't make a good saltwater or clouser type hook.
  18. I used to go to Gander- though last time I went they had pretty much demolished their fly fishing section (which wasnt any good anyways) and their prices seemed pretty high. It was not impressive to me.
  19. Im about to move down to that part of the state so I am pretty pumped. All we had before was Academy, which isn't bad but BP has better selection. There is also only one fly shop in Little Rock (and its not my favorite) so I welcome BP.
  20. Man you really churn those beauties out huh? If I weren't poor and busy I would want to build one of those.
  21. (disclaimer- I'm in Arkansas and havent fished the James) BUT I would tie up some "crazy dads" and maybe some stuff with bunny strips like leaches or sculpins- those are solid general patterns in my experience. Clousers are always a good bet.
  22. Wise words Phil. I grew up releasing fish because of my dad. It just bothers me that most of those guys snag those browns. I've never fished the Current, but I've seen it all over AR and on Taney for sure. I have had words with several chumps at the Little Red after watching them snag huge beautiful browns off their redds- and with fly rods even... you just cannot help but get mad.
  23. I use my 7 (sage vxp) all the time for smallies but I prefer my TFO BVK 6wt. Depends where I am fishing though. I use my 4wt alot for smallies on small streams. For some reason I only use my 5wt for trout... weird. PS- you cannot go wrong with Ross or Lamson for the reel.
  24. I've just never understood why people keep trophy fish- I mean that one isn't exactly a trophy but why not just keep two 15 inch bows and put that brown back. They don't taste any better, they don't fit in a pan and real skin mounts usually don't last all that long. Take some hero pics and let it swim- just an opinion- I know it is legal.... but snagging ain't.
  25. I was being a little sarcastic by the way- I'm going with snagged in the belly, filleted and fried up crispy.
