  1. I agree- you need your reel to look cool... on a five weight that's usually all it does anyway. Get a Lamson or a Ross.
  2. I also second Al on the short worms- Those zoom centipedes in pumpkin and green pumpkin, texas rigged with a 1/8 bullet weight can be deadly- at least on all the smaller bass. For some reason I have not caught a large smallmouth on one that I can remember- probably a personal problem.
  3. I have caught two grasscarp- both in golf course ponds- and I caught them both on a brown and copper bugger. They will take flies if you put them in just the right spot while they are feeding. Not sure if the mean to take the fly or just grab it while sucking down flora- but either way i hooked them inside their mouths.
  4. That article is great. Whoever wrote that has a flair for the dramatic for sure. I especially like the description of how he cast the jig and retrieved it. Tantalizing.
  5. Got mine, they all look good- well done gentlemen. I will put all this to use.
  6. Wow, that looks horrible. I would rather be anywhere else... ok maybe its better than work but that still looks awful.
  7. I have used blue wire on my normally colored scuds and it seems to work well. No scientific testing, just pure speculation.
  8. Wow that thing is sick- I wish i had a spare 250$
  9. Oh right on man, if you are keeping them then doesnt matter at all- I just thought the picture was funny. The trout looks like he is screaming.
  10. Totally agree- how could how possibly catch fish on high water without bait? I mean sinking lines, 9wts, articulated streamers- arrggh its all so complicated- I'd rather just tie on some bell sinkers and a treble hook and drift around.
  11. Ya, I put them on a 4 weight that I built for my buddy... but he never fishes so I dont really know how they held up. Im more worried about them breaking/bending when i fish out of boats and stuff... oh well theyre cheap and if they dont work I can always replace them.
  12. Bump- what did you go with man? Don't leave us hanging. I think the last few parts for my BVK 6wt will be coming in this week so (if I can figure out how) I will post some pics of it... you know if I don't ruin a perfectly good blank with my junk rod building skills. Hey hoglaw- would you suggest using single foot wire guides on a 6wt- i am a little worried about durability.
  13. You are good man, as long as this doesn't turn out like the swap-that-shall-not-be-named, I am counting it as a win.
  14. That middle picture of you lipping that poor rainbow is priceless. PS pretty sure lipping trout often injures their jaws- just in case you are a catch and release guy.
  15. No dude, its definitely your leader...
  16. I like that. Now if I could just figure out how to sell those for 18 dollars like that Poledancer fly...
  17. I've always done the best up by the dam or at swinging bridge. The water below swinging bridge is always fun and the big hole is full of stockers.
  18. Whoa, you didn't warn me about that french accent. I feel dirty... I need to go eat some Freedom Fries and shoot a gun or something... but that was pretty much what I had imagined.
  19. Those Redingtons seem like a good deal. I don't really care for BPS brand gear- I've just just never had good luck with it. I have two Redingtons and they are pretty solid for the price.
  20. I thought about posting a picture of mine but as a lowly student, it is just a roll top desk, a large portion of my 12x12 bedroom and a swath of floor space... oh and there are little bits and pieces all over most of my carpet, clothes, and my bed... oh well. Lately all I've been tying are big streamers and that dang marabou and deer hair gets everywhere.
  21. How does this hot glue egg pattern you speak of work? I am imagining a translucent egg made of glue but that seems difficult. I bought a hot glue gun but haven't really found any good applications as of yet.
  22. Bingo- they've got a SCV 9ft 8wt 4 piece blank for 90 bucks.
  23. I build a Lamiglas 8wt and it is sweet- but they don't make a 4 piece (which is stupid). Look at rodroom.com in the closeout section. Usually have some good deals and they are good southern folk and are easy to deal with. They have St. Croix, batson and lamiglas. I personally do not like how large the diameter is on most of those St. Croix blank/butt sections.
  24. Those yellow dungeons were working well on the white the other day. Why do you use two different, but similarly sized hooks?
  25. After looking at some flies at the shop- mine are pretty much a Poison Tung without a bead.
