Brian Wise Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 I see the Roubidoux listed on the MDC Trout Streams map. Anyone have any info on this? Brian My Youtube Channel
Members Greg_s Posted February 27, 2008 Members Posted February 27, 2008 It's my local haunt and a nice small stream overall. The white ribbon section is stocked and there have been recent reports of spawning males and spawned out females caught in the last couple of months. The red ribbon section is less urban and more wild but still easily accessed by hwy 17 at all areas. The fish average 12"-14" but occasionally you can hook into something larger. The red ribbon section and the Gasconade river nearby hold good populations of larger than average rock bass and average sized Smallmouth. The Smallmouth in my avatar was taken from this general area.
Brian Wise Posted February 27, 2008 Author Posted February 27, 2008 Thanks Greg, a couple of buddies and I are putting together an epic trip and the Roubidoux is one of our 10 or so stops in a one weekend of fishing. What would you recommend we use and do you have any directions for fishing areas? Brian My Youtube Channel
Members Greg_s Posted February 27, 2008 Members Posted February 27, 2008 Brian, go ahead and email off the board. I don't want to give too much info out on here. There's not much for crowds and I'd like to keep it that way as much as possible. g-strick@charter.net
Thom Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Roubidoux creek is in Pulaski county and is formed from the waters of Rubidoux spring and flows through the city of Waynesville to the Gasconade river three miles away. A new park formed in 1991 starts 2.5 miles below the utility line crossing the creek toward the Gasconade. It is accessible by road in most of that section and is from 20 to 50 feet wide at some points. It is restricted to artificials only. The nearest lodging is in St. Roberts which has several choices. Food can be found in Waynesville which has some neat restaurants. It is stocked with Rainbows and sometimes browns. Thom Harvengt

KATroutman13 Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 I've tried to fish that river on 3 occassions. Once rain storm came through and blew it out; one snow storm came in and kept me home; one ice/snow storm 3 days before decided to melt off the day before my trip and blew the river out. I want to fish it, but there are better places, I am sure.
Gavin Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Havent been there in years...fishing was OK, but nothing to write home about. FWIW, I'd fish fish streamers and crawfish patterns..Guess I've always missed the stocking truck, because always caught more smallmouth than trout on that creek. Cheers.
creek wader Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 KATrouman, Rain storm, Snow storm, Ice storm. Please give us some forewarning, before you plan a trip to the Roubioux again, so everybody can make alternate plans. wader
ollie Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 I love this little creek! I have always done pretty well on it from the spring downstream. Caught a 17" smallie down there one time and on the same day I saw the biggest smallie I have ever seen on that creek. It dwarfed the one I caught like by twice! Was there a couple of years back and my son's uncle caught a nice 16-17" trout. There are some pleasant surprises in there that's for sure. "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
