Don Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Even though it was never mentioned, I assume your'e talkin spoonbill. 60 some odd is a good fish. Reminds me of ny old spoon days where the Finley meets the James in MO. My biggest was about 50 lb estimate. We used to arrive approx 3 AM and build a fire. We'd cook frog legs wrapped in bacon and throw them on the coals wrapped in foil. It made a good mornin' breakfast while all the other snaggers arrived. Ahh the good ole days.... Don May Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
Seth Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Is the Miami Dam still going to be snaggable with all the rain we just got? Everywhere here in MO that I like to snag is extremely high right now so I thought about making the trip down to the Miami Dam and trying to snag some bills. It sounds like it's starting to get good by the way you fellas talk. Can a person by a fishing license and paddlefish permit anywhere down there or do you have to apply online for the paddlefish permits and stuff? Also I read something about a legacy permit, do I also have to get one of those to snag down there? I'm familiar already with the rules of one barbless hook and only keeping one fish.
Members Slabhunter Posted March 19, 2008 Author Members Posted March 19, 2008 I haven't been there since all the rain the past day or two. You can buy a license at wal-mart along with the snagging permit. Im sure the big ones are up that far (river view park) I can't wait to get back up there myself. I know the water is probably pretty high right now but that is the best time up there. I would use a 4oz. and size 8 treble hook. if you go let me know how you did.
Seth Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 Thanks for letting me know. I guess I'll try and find a few guys to go down with me and split the fuel bill and give it a shot. I've always heard about how awesome the snagging down there can be but never experienced it myself.
Members smartfish73 Posted March 22, 2008 Members Posted March 22, 2008 had three hookede got one in in four hours my uncle caught one on his first cast then 45 minutes later caught another one he decided he would be done the water was up last night but that didn't stop anyone there were a few people down at conners
Seth Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Were you snagging from the bank or a boat? Does anybody have an update on if the water level at Riverview Park is low enough to be snagged?
Members smartfish73 Posted March 24, 2008 Members Posted March 24, 2008 we were snaggin from the bank we were at conners bridge which is between twin bridges and the miami park the water was over the banks there but i think it has went down now my uncle is planning a trip this evening after work maybe he can give me a better report tonight
Members Paddlefish Posted March 25, 2008 Members Posted March 25, 2008 I stopped by Riverview Park on my way through Miami on Sunday. There was plenty of (dry) bank area to snag from in the small park area just above the bridge. Riverview Park still had water on both sides of the dam, but there we're several guy's standing on the wall on the West side and a few on the bank on the lower end on the East side. There we're also four boats anchored just below the dam. We watched a few guy's pull in some small (30lb) males in the smaller park above the bridge, but they said it was pretty slow day over-all.
Members Slabhunter Posted March 25, 2008 Author Members Posted March 25, 2008 Thanks for the reports everyone. I have gone west the past few times since the rains. My trips have really paid off. I have landed some really good ones. The biggest one being 98Ibs below Kaw. For some reason the fish have always been bigger over there. Last year my biggest was 104.If i could figure out how to put a picture on here i would. It keeps tellin me its too big to display. I have landed numerous ones in the high 80's. But now im payin the price I have pnumonia. So it looks like my fishing is over for the next couple weeks. Good luck and good health to everyone.
Members Slabhunter Posted March 31, 2008 Author Members Posted March 31, 2008 I haven't heard any reports in awhile. Just wondering if anyone is still catching some and what the river conditions are.
