dpenrod Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 anyone use the wulff triangle taper line? thinking of getting it in a 4 wt. have heard rave reviews from some and others have questioned its durability and floatability. any thoghts?
Steve Smith Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 I'd like to hear any comments too. I purchased 3wt on sale at Cabelas marked way down, and couldn't resist not buying. I figured they were either overstocked or the line was worthless. I haven't had time to load and try it. ___________________________ AKA Flysmith - Cassville MO
Roaring River Veteran Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 Hello all, I have used TT several time. I really like it. I did use it on a 8' 6" 4 wt loomis IMX several year ago and it worked well. I also have It on an 9' 6" scott 8 wt and It too works very well. It seems like I currently have it on a 2 wt or 3 wt but I can't remember for sure I will have to check and get back to you. I also know several people that have used it dating back to my RR lodge days and I haven't heard any complaints. hope this helps RRV Good luck and Good fishing RRV
mizzouflyfisher Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 I've got a triangle taper 3 wt. right now. It casts fine, but I liked the orvis wonderline that i previously had better. Seems like the triangle taper is starting to crack a bit. But the wonderline is gone, along with the st. croix rod and galvan reel that was stolen.
Gavin Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 I have quite a few TT lines and I like them a lot. The head is a continuous forward taper with a very fine tip which makes for great roll casting presentations . As for floatation and durability, I clean and dress them on a regular basis and the seem to float and last just as long as any other fly line. Cheers.
Brian K. Shaffer Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 I think the TT lines perform better with slower actioned rods. (like Winstons) If you have a faster tapered rod.. go with the Sci-Anglers GPX or Orvis Wonderline G3. I have used all of them.. but I more highly recommened the latter two lines. happy casting - Brian Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
Wayne SW/MO Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 I've used them since they came out and I like them, and in fact I've always had at least one. The early lines were shorter lived then most lines, but since they've gone to single specific weights they seem to last as long as any. Nothing roll casts like a Triangle Taper Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
dpenrod Posted February 20, 2006 Author Posted February 20, 2006 thanks for the info all. looks like my teton tioga is gonna get a 4 wt. traingle taper.
Steve Smith Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 I finally loaded the Wulff TT line on my 2 wt TFO rod. I could tell after a couple of cast this was good stuff. JUst as soon as the billfold can handle it, I'll load some more. I am concerned about the line cracking as mentioned previously. However, I've had that problem on Orvis Wonderline too. We'll see how it goes. ___________________________ AKA Flysmith - Cassville MO
Wayne SW/MO Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 Steve, I've used it on at least one rod since it came out, and that was a problem for some years. The problem supposedly doesn't exist to any extent now and that would be my limited experience. i suppose its not unexpected that it would benefit by modern methods and materials like other lines. Ever see anything roll cast any better? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
