ozarksfishin Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 Ran into friend and fellow guide, Mike Webb at the ramp as we were coming in this afternoon, and he reported only catching two keepers, but one was this 6.42lb. Smallie!!! Mike caught the giant on a Bass Pro Shops XPS grub, he did say the depth, but he was in the Dam area. The Smallmouth are definetley on the move!! I put my son Kolby in the pic to use as scale just to show how big this fish is. After the pic, Mike was on his way to Springfield, and the fish will soon be in the tanks at Bass Pro in Springfield. Bill Babler Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Great fish, Thanks for the post. Would have been alot better if Mike had just taken the photo's and put her back to spawn. All Bass Pro really needs is another fish in their tanks. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com

Thanks for the pic "Your chances of ever catching a record fish increase in direct proportion to your distance from a reliable scale"
taxidermist Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Does BPS quarentine the fish before introduction into the larger tanks at the store? Iheard they did but who knows?
creek wader Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Great fish, Thanks for the post. Would have been alot better if Mike had just taken the photo's and put her back to spawn. All Bass Pro really needs is another fish in their tanks. I couldn't agree any more. wader
Trav Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 I heard that if you call Bass Pro, they will come and get the fish if your donating it to thier tanks. They will even pay for your expenses if you need to meet them someplace. Also, in return for your fish, they will have a replica mount made of it for free. Jeremy Rasnick Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Speaking of Smallmouth I hope you all enjoy this picture. Disregard the backdrop and erase that from your mind. I caugh this rascal in January, to be honest with you, i had better luck in January than I have in the past few weekends. I didn't have a scale with me, it helps me lie about the weight when I tell my buddies. Feel free to give your opinion on what you guess its weight to be..........keep in mind Im 8'4'' and weigh 430 lbs. I hope the attachment comes through. Good luck to all this spring
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 15, 2008 Root Admin Posted March 15, 2008 You've grown a bit since I saw you last... and that was yesterday? I saw the pic on the phone- I'd say 6+. Glad he's still swimmin' unless it's the same fish Mike caught.
Bill Babler Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Jeremy, Great fish. Glad you caught her. Looks like 6 plus to me also. Glad she is still swimming. Area of pic, looks strangly familar. I believe they might live there. Trav, if BP does the taxidermy on the replica, you wouldn't want it anyway. I have seen better Chainsaw Ice Carvings, than the majority of their mounts turn out. No reason to kill or throw a wonderful fish like that in jail. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Trav Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 You would think that of all places Bass Pro would have decent replica artists. Thanks for the advice Bill, But I wasnt ever entertaining the idea of giving BP one of my fish. I like to keep them within 50 yards of where I caught them. Makes it easier to find them again in the future. HeHe "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
