dwiebenga Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 SKMO's pics are amazing. It is somewhat ironic that 2 years ago the lake was 14 feet low. Now it is almost 10 feet high. The weather is crazy. Anywho, I am coming down at the end of April. For those of you that fish the lake regularly, how will this impact the spring spawn season? I would assume it might help because of the extra cover for the fish. Yet, we, as fisherman< have more water to cover. What is the humble opinion? Thanks for all the advice. Dave
skeeter Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 It's going to be critical that if there is a fast warm-up while the water is still high and if the fish go on their beds that the Corps maintain the lake levels and not expose the nests. Since they have all 10 flood gates open I'd say that right now the last thing on their minds is the spawn but it should still be weeks off. Brownies and the Kentuckies go first followed a few degrees later by the largemouth. Early next week's forecast is for below normal temps as another Canadian high pressure moves in so who knows, at this time of the year, just what will happen.
rps Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 You ask an interesting question. If ... only normal rainfall and weather from now until then and if ... the corps tries to control the water to avoid down stream floods and if ... the corps tries to avoid a large drawdown during the spawn then ... the spawn will be different this year than last. The bass will be on the beds and you'll be fishing more objects that were dry last year. Change the assumptions and the equation goes haywire. What are the guesses of the rest of you out there?
