Trav Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 I have always been a Silverado Man, but latley, I dont know as if I wouldnt mind one of those Toyata Tundras. Sharp Truck. Fords always look so much like fleet vehicles. Stocky and plain. But that is just me. "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson

Like if you want to put more than 150 lbs on the tailgate... And you would think that a Toyota would get better mileage than it does... Unfortunately for Toyota the results are in... If you need a grocery getter, consider (and probably still decline to purchase) the toyota Tundra... But if you need a truck that will actually do a truck job, better stick with one of the big three.. For my end I would say GMC of course... Oh, and then there's Toyota's poor CSI on the Tundra... They just don't know what truck owners expect or what they use their trucks for... Voiding the waranty on the 4x4 system because of "excessive off-road use" claiming that the customer has "had the truck through a mudhole or something.." The guy drove it through one yard at his jobsite and it got pretty muddy.. Not any muddier than the commercials show though... Sorry, rant off.... cricket.c21.com
Trav Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 Never drove a Tundra nor know anyone that has, so my opinion is on pure looks. I will probably continue to stick with my Silverados. I can beat the heck out of them and pull down mountains(a bit exagerated) and it keeps right on. Warranties? What is that? I havent bought a truck any newer than 6 years old in my life. Another reason I like silverados. They dont get the 100 thousand mile refix. Where everything needs replaced like the fords tend to. My Bro is a strong GMC guy. His 08 Sierra is one tough truck. Plus it hauls the biggest of fifth wheels with no trouble. Gas milage? You dont buy a truck for good milage. Mine gets maybe 15 to 17 miles to the gallon(Closer to 12 in town). Wich is very good for a fifteen year old 8 cyl. "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
bigredbirdfan Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 I passed over smaller trucks (6 cylinder) for my 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 4X4 b/c my truck is big, safe and gets 20 mpg highway. Not so good in city. But it is safe and the 6 cylinder trucks get a whopping 22 mpg and are small as passenger cars. No thanks until they really boost power and mpgs. I have owned 1 tahoe and 2 yukons (1 w/90,000 miles) and never did anything more than change oil. GM Rocks. I don't think you will hear similar storys from the ford or dodge crowd. I would also give Toyota a while to work out kinks. That last T100 truck had some problems.
Seth Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Dad has a 1996 Dodge 2500 cummins thats around 260k miles now and has ALWAYS performed like a top. My girlfriends dad drives a 2002 chevy 1500 that's around 260k, miles also and he's never had a lick of trouble from it. My 2005 Ford Ranger has 68000 miles on it now and never lets me down and pulls in 28mpg for me too. Many guys drive F150's and F250's that I know and all run like a top. Honestly the only reason I can see why a person would be brand loyal is if they prefer the looks of the brand over the others because I can bet money that each truck will perform like a top IF it's maintained. People are lazy and wonder why there vehicle breaks down when they don't maintain it like they are supposed too.....DUH! Right now I am looking at getting an 90's model tahoe/yukon 2dr 4x4 to play around in on the weekends. My buddy has one and I really like it and I've seen several in the 3500-5000 dollar range.

You hear so many of these same stories working in my industry (GMC store) it's just amazing how well these trucks do if you take care of them... cricket.c21.com

Before this gas crunch those two door 4x4 yukons in the late nineties in good condition were worth their weight in gold! I say if it's got a good ownership history, decent miles, and a decent body.. It's worth the 3-5k range all day long.. Best of luck... Those old 350's aren't the greatest on mileage, but they are dependable... cricket.c21.com

Last year I rarely seen them below $6000 around here, but now there have been several below 5000 popping up. As long as I keep my little Ranger, I won't worry too much about the fuel economy since it's only going to be used for towing the boat, riding around on the weekends, and taking off for the hunting woods.
taxidermist Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Look at a big truck like this, What is your life worth?" My brother is a fireman and every week they pull someone who will die or is dead out of the smaller trucks and those inthe large trucks almost always walk away. A couple years ago there was a head on crash in Harrison on Cottonwood road and bunker, the place is bad because the idiots driving Bunker will not stop. Anyway the Toyota cross the line and hit a F-350 head on, the Toyota was destroied and the people in the F-350 walked a way and the F -350 was repaired and is still on the road. Thats one reason I still drive my gas hog.
