John Berry Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 I talked with the Corps of Engineers this morning. They said that beginning Thursday they were going to start increasing the number of operating generators by one per day untill they were running at maximum. They will run around the clock untill the lakes are below flood pool. They estimate that to be May 10. Greg Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Wow. Not anyone's fault but that stinks for guys like me that prefer to wade. I had planned a trip in April but I think I'll put that off. Do you have any idea if the Norfork will be generating heavily as well John? thanks, Greg "My biggest worry is that my wife (when I'm dead) will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it" - Koos Brandt Greg Mitchell
John Berry Posted March 26, 2008 Author Posted March 26, 2008 Greg, The Norfork is 19.5 feet above power pool and 8.5 feet below the top of flood pool. They are going to have to get rid of that water. Reality is a bummer. John Berry OAF CONTRIBUTOR Fly Fishing For Trout (870)435-2169 http://www.berrybrothersguides.com berrybrothers@infodash.com
Members Yakfly Posted March 26, 2008 Members Posted March 26, 2008 Our country needs a system of aquaducs and pipes to route all this clean water where we need it. Georgia is bone dry and here we are with TOO much water. Anyway, sounds like this will be the spring to fish the smallmouth streams!
Members socojoe Posted March 26, 2008 Members Posted March 26, 2008 Hello John, I have a trip planned for 3/28,3/29 &3/30. I planed on putting in at rose trout dock a float fishing and would like to know if it will be worth my while with the generation schedule or should i try little red instead. I would appreciate yours or anyones thoughts on this. Thanks.
jdmidwest Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 After several years of low flows and minor floods, we need to be glad we are having a wet year. Alot of streams need the recharge. It will only help the fishing in the long run. Besides, smallies need attention too...... "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. John Berry Posted March 26, 2008 Author Posted March 26, 2008 The Red is 13 feet above power pool also. I do not know when they will start generating there. The White and Norfork will be slowly ramped up this weekend. The fishing here will be good. I will be fishing high water over the next couple of months. The fish are still there you just need to get down to them. The high water is good for the fish and we will reap the benefits.
