timsfly
Anybody out there ever fish Rhode Island or out near there? We are adopting a baby and are going to have to spend several weeks out that way, and I would like to fish, so any info would be appreciated. Looks like there are several streams, on the map, but can't find a lot of info on the old internet hiway. Thanks in advance for the help. Danoinark
Tim, Congratulations on your new addition. I think that is a a wonderful thing you and your wife are doing. Hats off to you. As to fishing the NE. I bet just about any stream you cross in the upper Appalachian region you will have great fishing. Its always been one of my "to do" areas. flyfishmaster
Tim, BTW: Congrats on the adoption! Since Rhode Island is so small, I would look at fishing the other states around that area like Connecticut. back in '97 I fished the Housatonic River on different days. The Housatonic River has a fantastic Trout Management Area that begins in West Cornwall near Route 112 and Route 7, and runs downstream to Route 7 and Route 4. This is back in the days when I just started fly fishing. So I was only able to catch 10 or so fish. But like always, I had a blast doing it. Later and have fun! FFM Woo Hoo Fish On!! snagged in outlet 3
Hey timsfly First, congrats!! I saltwater fished out of Newport and it was awesome. Narragansett Bay is where we fished. I can't remember the shop but they were located in downtown Newport, shouldn't be hard to find. They even hooked me up with a guy from New York to share the charter. We caught Stripers and bluefish untill I put the rod down and told the captain I'd had enough. We literally caught fish every cast for 8 hours. Had a couple on that were real brutes in the 30 lb range but most were schoolies around 6 to 8 pouinds. It was a blast. SIO3
snagged in outlet 3
I found the place, it's called Saltwater Edge. Me and the guy from New York were the first two guys they took out fly fishing. They were doing light tackle and were just starting to get into fly fishing. My buddy went up there the next year and said pictures of me were all over the shop from that trip. The owner told him we were the first to catch fish on a fly on one of their charters. They were real nice folks but I don't know if it's the same owners now. That was around 12 years a go, or more, I guess. http://www.saltwateredge.com/ The trips were quite a bit cheaper back then. The shore trips look interesting.
