trizkid Posted April 2, 2008 Author Posted April 2, 2008 thats true for our whole state not just simpsons....... http://www.p2pays.org/ref/16/15658.pdf TrIzzout
bikehikefish Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 True, most waters and fish are contaminated to some extent. But this MDC pamphlet listed the amount of fish by species that they recommend we eat (or not). For most waters, they recommended not eating more than x amount of x species over x inches long. They stated specifically for Simpson lake not to eat any amount of any species. Anyone can have my share if they want it.
trizkid Posted April 3, 2008 Author Posted April 3, 2008 haha ya mine to, the lake does have alot of trash in some areas just stacked up on the bank. Most of that trash is put in the lake by that creek that runs in to it. but even with the nonedible fish its only 15 min from the house and is worth a shot when i have spare time. TrIzzout
ColdWaterFshr Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 No, its plain nasty water. I live about 10-15 minutes from it and I won't be back. Its a secondary raw sewage settling lagoon, and I think that could be understating it . . . . you could just as likely catch a 15 inch doogie wrapped in fresh Charmin. The treatment plant is right there. Plenty of ponds/subdivision lakes/parks around just as close to get a quick fix, I would never steer anyone there. Fabick Park lake on the other side of I-44, 2miles as the crow flies from Simpson, is 100x better.
Members fishermen Posted April 3, 2008 Members Posted April 3, 2008 haha you seem to have a very strong hatred for simpsons...u think its really that bad?
ColdWaterFshr Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Maybe I just caught it on a bad day. Half-time during a Superbowl, when everyone was flushing (into it).
Members fishermen Posted April 4, 2008 Members Posted April 4, 2008 lol.....well everything might have gotten flushed out with the floods we have had
Members Wormser Posted September 10, 2008 Members Posted September 10, 2008 I've fished there a number of times in the last 2 years. Bass fishing is generally pretty slow, but there are some big fish. I heard they shocked it about 3 years ago and pulled out a 13lb fish among other large fish. A nice thing about the lake is that they stock spoonbill - which I discovered last April when my brother and I each caught one. Whats more, we caught a little sauger there 2 years ago. Fishing the spillway from the lake to the Meremac is nice, I've caught a 16in bass in the little waterway, and landed a nice bowfin in the slack water closer to the river. I'm curious about the fishing conditions since the recent flood. The entire lake was many feet under the river, so who knows what the lake will hold now? I'll probably try the lake out soon if I can find some extra time, maybe I can make another report. Best of luck on the water, Paul Nice suprise last year How do you catch a spoonbill anyway? I thought yo can only snag em?
