Nobody has posted on here in a while so I was wondering if anybody has been snagging lately? We went down to Tablerock and snagged last Saturday. Took while to find fish, but ended up gettng a 40 and a 25 lbs male. Should of limited out, but had trouble keeping fish on the hook. The water temp was 58.5 so if the temps stay up in the 60's the sows should start running here shortly.

They are being hit on the James River below Springfield Lake right now. Only takes about an hour to get your limit. 25 to 35 pound males are the average. Take your waders and get out in the middle. Cast towards the back side of the pilons.

My buddy who goes to college at Evangel went down there and said he caught some. For some reason, we had always thought you couldn't snag there and had to be below Highway 160. All well, I plan on coming down there next Sunday/Monday so hopefully the fish are still there. The water should stay high enough with all the rains we just got.

Nice bill Duckman. How much did she weigh and I take it you caught her up at Taberville?

I've seen spoonbill in the part of the White that I fish. I'm sure they're a blast to hang, but I've always wondered what you guys do with these fish? Do you eat them or their eggs, or do you release them? Is there a high mortality rate when you snag, or are these guys big enough to swim away after being untangled?

Clean'em up and have you one heck of a fish fry is what we do. Make sure to get all that nasty red/chocolate meat outta them and you have some darn good eatin'. I don't like to gaff my fish so the mortality rate is zero, unless you like totally rip them open while fighting. They are a tough fish just leave the gaff hangin' in the tree fer the big one and you won't hurt anything.

Oh fergot, just guessing there Seth I'd put her around 80. Everyone fergot there scales that weekend. And yeah we were just outside Taberville. Our group and local friends down there pulled in all of about 40 bills in two days there. It was pretty fast and furious. But with the water really rising now (near flood level) it may slow things down a bit this weekend. We'll see.......

glad to hear you tore them up at Tabervile. I wasn't sure if that was fisheable or not this year with all the rain we have got. Tablerock has been really high and it's hard to even put a boat in there. The fish haven't started running from what I can tell though, unless they are already way up river do to the high water. The water temps were 58.5 degrees when i was up there last Saturday which should be about right I would think.

Good luck this weekend if you go.
