vonreed Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Well after debating on where to go all day I decided to go to Warsaw. After the report Jenny left I had high hopes of at least a descent night of fishing. After 207 miles, 24 dollars in gas, and 3 1/2 hours of driving I had 1 fish for my efforts, lol. I guess since the last report up there the water has turned muddy in the tailwater. I did have 2 other bites so my 1 fish wasn't a complete fluke. If someone happens to go up there and sees the water isn't muddy, I'd appreciate a heads up. Patrick
zander Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Vonreed, we were planning on going up there Saturday. What were you fishing for? Any size to what you caught? Anybody else doing anything that you saw? Which side of the tailwater were you fishing on? A lot of questions, but Truman sounded great to us too after Jenny's report. Also in a lot of these reports the bait XL Glow Slabhunter is mentioned but nobody at BassPro or Fin N Feather had ever heard about it. What is it? Do they sell them at the station?
Bittle Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 myself and a buddy were going to attempt the trip on sunday to see what we could hang into. Hope something bites. Good luck. Oh and I believe the station carries several of the slab hunter baits. Stop in and i'm sure they will set you up.
Dutch Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 The slab hunter is a Truman bait. I think they make them at the Station.
slider Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 ZANDER THEY HAVE A BAIT AT BASSPRO AND FINANDFEATHER CALLED A SLAB SLAYER THAT IS THE SAME THING BUT JUST A LITTLE DIFFRENT. I COULDNT FIND THE GLO AT BP. A MAN FROM WARSAW STARTED MAKING THESE AND SOLD THEM FROM HIS HOME. HE SOLD THE MOLDS THE THE PEOPLE AT THE STATION. THEY HAVE BEEN AROUND WARSAW FORE SEVEREL YEARS, AND ARE A GOOD BAIT. SLIDER DONT EVER GIVE UP MOSES WAS A BASKET CASE ONCE!
Members 2bfishn Posted April 4, 2008 Members Posted April 4, 2008 Von I know just how you feel. I drove up from Marshfield yesterday after reading Jens "good to Great" report. fished about 3 hours and caught 1 crappie and lost one fish....... HMMMMMM something must have changed pretty drasticly since Jen posted!!!!!!!!!!!!. Btw I fished all the way from the slack water side by the launch ramp to the creek below town. Water temp still around 48. the creek below town was 50 but that was the only place.
Seth Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Good luck on getting some slab hunters. Everytime I have been up there, they were old out of the "hot" versions each time. The first trip I ever made up there last year I watched eveybody fishing for whites and hybrids and they were all using slab hunters. thanks for letting us know about the Slab Slayers. I will be sure to get some of those before I head to the Tailrace next time since they are always out of the XL Slab Hunters.

Hey Zander, I was hoping for my limit of 11-13 inch crappie, along with some 4-10 pound walleyes, and some hybrids thrown in the mix, lol. I caught 1 white bass about a pound. The only other fish I seen was a crappie and another white bass. And there were quite a few people there compared to what was being caught. I was on the North side of the tailrace. Hope this helps somewhat. Patrick
Bill B. Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 A friend of mine from Rocheport fished there yesterday (Thursday) afternoon, from about 4 p.m. until dark. He didn't catch a fish and said he saw very few caught by anybody else. I don't know which side he was fishing on.
zander Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I hoping that the bite (or lack thereof) had to do with the weather change on Wednesday. Hopefully by tmw when we go up there it will be back on. I will do a report one way or the other.
