Really?

Just goes to show not many people know about those records... that's an easy feat... not to take away from Micheal's angling ability. Just like JD Dudley breaking 5 line class records, catch and release, last summer in AK on sockeye. They weren't that hard to break, esp since 3 of them were open.

I guess that's fly rod class?

What is the url of the record site with all the records? Is there more than one official entity recording records?

Very true. Somewhere @ 30 year ago I discovered that the 1 Kg & 2 Kg tippet classes for white bass were open in the IGFA record books. So I filled them. With fish barely over the minimum. Mainly to see if I could endure the bureaucratic process but also to get the World Record Holder pins for my fishing hat. While the catching of a deserving world record is no small achievement it is the meeting of all bureaucratic standards and filling out all the paperwork that is difficult.

The International Gamefish Association is the recognized standard bearer for maintaining world records. Google should find them handily. CC

Thank you for taking notice, I have worked my butt off to do this and hope that I will be able to break more.

It is not official yet should be a couple of weeks until we know for sure, They are testing the tippet as we speak.

I have to say this I hope that David Freeman saw it, He is the one that pretty much taught me everything about White Bass fishing in this area. We miss you David.

An IGFA world fly fishing record that has been held for over 27 years by Cory Wells, the leader of the internationally famous hit recording rock group Three Dog Night, may be on the verge of being broken. While fly fishing Beaver Creek, on Bull Shoals Lake in Missouri, USA, Michael Bryan Kyle of nearby Springfield, landed a white bass (Morone chysops) on March 26 weighing 1.7 kg (3 lb 12 oz) using a Duane Doty clouser minnow on 4 kg (8 lb) class tippet. Wells caught his 3 lb 8 oz white bass fly fishing Lake Nacimiento, Calif in 1981. Ironically veteran fishing writer Wayne Shaw of the San Luis Obispo (Calif) Tribune was in the midst of writing a feature on Wells and the long standing world record from the local lake. Wells has been a member of the IGFA for over 30 years and held other fly records.

Since that ole boy from Three Dog Night has held the record for 27 years, I suspect it really wasn't such an "easy feat." There are hundreds of thousands of highly skilled amateur and professional anglers actively pursuing IGFA records. By the time you can get an official IGFA weigh-in around here fish lose a LOT of weight. When talking about pre-spawn female White Bass, that weight loss is quite pronounced. To cross all the T's and dot all the I's quickly enough to get a world record fish properly entered is a rare accomplishment unless the record happens to be open or it's a species of fish very few people fish for with the type of tackle used. But a 1.5 kg tippet class record for a White Bass (the most prolific and widely dispersed sub-species of Bass in North America) is NOT uncommonly sought after. That is a typical tippet strength among fly anglers fishing for White Bass.

Where I come from, diminishing the accomplishments of a fellow local area angling professional would be considered unsportsman-like and unprofessional.

Congratulations, Michael. You're bringing notoriety to Ozarks fisheries. That's good for business for everyone around here. Thanks.
