Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 19, 2008 Root Admin Posted April 19, 2008 Jim and I have put together a special package for October this year on the Naknek River. What do you catch in October? THE largest rainbows in the world. No salmon- they're all gone. Dolly Vardon, northern pike, lake trout and more rainbows. Destinations: Naknek River, Naknek Lake, Brooks River and Falls (bear viewing), Margot Creek, Big Creek. We don't count a trophy rainbow unless it's over 30 inches. Lodge, food, guide for a week stay - $1000 per person. Weeks open - October 5-12 and 12-19. There's only room for 4-8 clients each week. We're going to keep the numbers low to keep the guide/client ratio low. Flights will cost about $1200 - $1300 to fly to King Salmon from KC or St Louis. Other expenses - license $55. Misc personal snacks, drinks (alcohol)... We provide equipment if you have trouble with your after you're here (broken rods) and information on lures and flies. I personally want to spend a couple of weeks on the Naknek in October after my experience last fall. The weather wasn't too bad (some rain and wind and temps in the 40's) but the fish was just starting to get... unbelieveable! And we'll have the river(s) basically to ourselves. All the other outfitters are gone by the end of September. Am I forgetting something... oh yea - - - you will not find deal anywhere as cheap as this one AND a fishery such as this one AND fishing guides who can put you on the fish. http://naknekrivercamp.com You won't find this offer on Jim's site. This is my deal to OzarkAnglers people.
Micheal Kyle Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 That is a deal; if you want a full experience of catching big fish and being able to have people take care of you then this is what you want. Jim runs a first class operation and I promise you if you will listen to them you will catch and land a Rainbow of your dreams. We go the last week in September and the weather is awesome Highs in the 50s and lows in the upper 30s and rain everyday, but you will not think of the rain when you are landing your 30 incher. I am not sure how many 30 inchers as a group we had on but I do know that we had 11 to hand with my wifes being the biggest of the group 34 inches. If I could stay for one of those weeks I would. Here is a pic of Kristina and her ace in hole guide Phil Again Thanks Phil Michael To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!
zander Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 A couple of other questions.... The Sept 2007 pics looked like it was pretty cold, especially for those of us with no natural insulation. How cold is it likely to be that time of the year? and How many hours of sunlight would there be each day?
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 20, 2008 Author Root Admin Posted April 20, 2008 You can use spinning gear but fly rod is much more effective. Weather holds about the same, maybe alittle cooler. 40's daytime and 30's night. Daylight- about the same as down here that time of year... about 11 hours.
soggyfeet Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 Im guessing the deadline is when it fills up. And what size rods are used up there is a seven wt too small? Brian
Kansas Fly Fisher Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 I'd better start working on the wife and see if I can convince her I NEED to go on this trip. Maybe since I'm remodeling the house for you she'll feel sorry for me about then and I can go play for a while. John Born to Fish, Forced to Work KSMEDIC.COM
duckydoty Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 That is a deal that cant be beat! A 7 wt rod should be fine. I will have a 10 ft 7wt as my main rod up there this year. I think a few guys in our group on the Sept trip used 5 and 6 wts. duckydoty A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
watermen Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 Phil that,s a deal and a half. Don't know how you can buy gas and groceries for that. Would bring warm clothes though. Lockup happens typically between the 15th and 30th most years and we have a la nina developing this year. your liable to have snow instead of rain. Ponds are still locked up there and kodiak as well as of yesterday. Not as late as last year, but weather is reverting back just like it is hear. Hope the fishing holdsfor you and you weathered the flood well. I fly to kiodiak the 27th and am prepared for snow again this year. Don't think the bears are still at brooks that time of year typically either. If we can't hold escapement under 1 million in the naknek the next few years the fishing is going to drop way off for you as well as the commercial fleet. Found some rooms finally yesterday and will try to beat you to the early ones at the airport. One more positive note gas is 6.29 at the shop uptown and 6.49 at the store in king salmon. I'm sure the truck got drained this winter. Tell your guys if they like to duck hunt to bring a shot gun that time of year, the river gets covered with ducks and sometimes some unique species for missourians. good luck the boat name is the same.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 20, 2008 Author Root Admin Posted April 20, 2008 Need to get me your contact info up there before you go... cell phone and all. $6.49... gezz that's up $2. October will be an adventure for sure... for anyone who goes. We were snowed on the day we left- October 8th last year. But the locals said that snow didn't stay till almost November. It's not a trip for the weak or the weak at heart for sure. But the reward, the rainbow fishing, is plenty reward. Not sure what you mean by $1 mil escapement. I know you're talking about salmon- what species?
