Members CBNMO Posted April 23, 2008 Members Posted April 23, 2008 Wayne, Sometimes they quit fighting and you can get them to lay up where you can get to the head, but most of the time when we get them to the boat they are trying to swim away, so the tail is all that you can reach. When fishing with two hooks, they will usually roll around on the way in and get the second hook wrapped around the handle (the tail). They can be really docile as they come up but with the flip of their tail, they can be headed back to the bottom in a hurry. I don't want to be hooked to a 70 - 125 lb fish headed for Davies Locker. I've never used a gaff, but it's a thought. Seth, it seems like if we drop the fish into the boat, it usually starts the "try to whack your foot to death" dance. But if we bring them in and lay them down easy and hold the head or the tail up a little, they seem to not do that. Makes removing the hooks a lot easier. I don't know why, but it seems to work? Most of the time anyways.
Members Leg Buster Posted April 23, 2008 Author Members Posted April 23, 2008 yea i think that you are right with your rules there. once you keep your two fish you can continue to snag for other things like suckers in the creeks and what not. i dont think if i had two paddlefish in the boat i would try to snag gar though. to risky..... and we do try to gently roll them in the boat, seth adn i... and they still beat us to death, but we don't hold thier heads, we might try that. on opening night we rolled one in the boat that racked seth lol. we probably should have held that ones head to save seth's....
Seth Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Well why don't you just kick a guy when he's down....lol. I'm trying to decide on whether or not to bring my boat down Saturday. It looks like it will be me and one other person, hopefully Cari's dad in my truck. Without the boat, fuel will run probably 40-50 bucks and with the boat 50-60. What do you think? Bring the boat just to be safe or do you think we would do fine from the bank? I don't know why I am asking you on here when I can just call you and get an answer in two seconds lol. Maybe troutfishn will want to join us if it's just three of us or w/e fishing Saturday.
