techo
As I mentioned before....we are headed down the first weekend of May. We plan on the float day being Saturday. We are staying at Tyler (kids and wives want showers). Any idea on where to float? We had a pleasant exprience with who we rented the canoes from last time, but we were thinking of headigna bit farther up stream. Class of rapids there? Will the kids be okay up there? Thanks again for input. I doubt I will get much fishing in, based on past float experiences with kids. Tim Carpenter
WebFreeman
I've only floated from Steel Creek to Pruitt, but those upper sections are awesome and weren't too challenging. Though the water wasn't like it has been this spring. Steel Creek to Kyles Landing is a great float. About 8 miles I think. I think about the same from Kyles Landing to Erbie. I think after Erbie, the water slows up, which means more paddling. The upper floats are much work in the paddling regard. Just the steering. Others with more experience can confirm or deny. “Many go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.” — Henry David Thoreau Visit my web site @ webfreeman.com for information on freelance web design. ollie
Bobber seems to be the man in the know when it comes to the Buffalo. Give him a pm. bobber
how are you paddling skills? are you ok on class II water ? and how small are the kids? next, if you dump over, can you, your wife, and little ones, swim in fast moving water ?? because you won't be falling out in dead still water anywhere on the upper sections (boxley to ozark) the rain we had last night put 4 inches of water on top of the ponca bridge... closing the river to renters ,but it's dropping slowly... and the rain is coming back sunday through weds..... so we could be in a flooded stage. ....... outfitter (keller kanoes/ jesse jefferson is the new owner) 870- 446-2644 ... maybe a raft would be better ,slower but safer with kids!! i'm going in the morning to buffalo point for the weekend, and i'll post up sunday night, or monday <*)))))))>< * AMERICAN CANOE ASSOCIATION CERTIFIED CANOE, and SWIFT WATER RESCUE INSTRUCTOR.*
Wayne SW/MO
This is a time to be very cautious on the rivers. Around the next bend might be a strainer thats never been there before. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
techo
Thanks bobber and all, I think we will play it safe with the kids, camp at Tylers Bend and just do the lower or middle river. No use having everyone on edge for the weekend. Stop by Friday or Saturday for a smore! teco Tim Carpenter
