Tightline Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 We(my brother-in-law and me) started about 3 pm today at Roark creek.Water was murky and fairly warm.Didn't catch much on our fly rods, a few small bass and some bluegills.Decided to run up to the KOA and drift fish a while, boy I mean thats some quick drifting,it didn't take us long to give up on our fly rigs and tie 1/8 ounce jigs to our spin rigs.We only caught 22 between us on 5 drifts, but they were all good quality fish between 14-18 inchs except for one stocker. The thing that surprised me was that more than half were Browns and they were all good 16-18 inchers. It was great fun, except ,I lost every 1/8 ounce jig I own.White was the best. I couldn't believe how much it has changed down there,it will be interesting to see up by the outlets and the rebar hole when the water goes down.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 5, 2008 Root Admin Posted May 5, 2008 Where did you do the best- what area?
Tightline Posted May 5, 2008 Author Posted May 5, 2008 Actually we caught them from Koa to Fall creek with no particular spot better, except for the island below koa, where there is a seam and the currents meet, that was pretty good.
Bill Babler Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 Absolutely love it when a report comes in on the upper restricted area, boat fishing. Nice Browns. Tight, where you caught them is where I have been struggling the most. I have been picking up about in the place you started, and heading back to the cable. Appreciate it, That gives me a the confidence to work that area a little harder. Its a short drift if you only go from the dam to clay banks. If I can drift the full stretch, it saves gas. Keep em connin. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 5, 2008 Root Admin Posted May 5, 2008 That's why I asked... cause I've been having trouble catching the numbers now we were catching before the last big water. But I have gotten off the white jig, esp below Lookout. But to be honest, I haven't had much time when I get out and only have time to try a couple of things. My fishing has been limited to 60-90 minutes late evening lately. I do want to try the am bite because the water is much slower early. Plus I want to see if I can see the bottom of the lake is some spots to see if there is any silt deposits where there should be gravel. This murky water is real different for Taney. NEVER has it been this way for so long- and I think it will be this way may be for all summer and into the fall.
WebFreeman Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 Good report Tightline. We you keying on anything (gravel bars, structure) or just letting the boat drifting where it wanted to? “Many go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.” — Henry David Thoreau Visit my web site @ webfreeman.com for information on freelance web design.
Tightline Posted May 6, 2008 Author Posted May 6, 2008 We had intentions of going up to the dam and trying to catch some of those wallys and whites before Leonard catchs all of them. But we stopped to fish before we got there and my partner hooked a nice fat Brown and that was all she wrote we stayed down stream. Leonards just killing me with his reports. Structure Web!
