Trav Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 If you guys wouldnt mind sharing, could you tell me what Makes and colors of grubs tend to be the most popular right now with those staging bass? "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
techo Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 Thanks to Bill it would be the empty pegs at BPS! LOL. Most of my buds use watermelon seed, pumpkin seed, and smoke and pepper. Brand is whatever you like. Some folks like the BPS salted, some like the Chompers, and so on. If on the bottom use the color of the thing a fish would eat on bottom. If suspended then use the color of what a fish would eat in suspended water. If I were a fish I would prefer pepperoni pizza colored. Tim Carpenter
Whack'emGood Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 Pepperoni pizza color... would that be yellow/orange with red dots? We caught em on Smoke yesterday. Yeah. Just try any shade that resembles a shad color when swimmin em off the bottom. If I can't catch them on the conventional tackle that I already use, then I guess I just can't catch them." -LK (WHACK'EM)
MOBass Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 Mine grub du juor is a 4" XPS in milky pepper and a 1/4 oz head with Gammy hook. I need to re stock before my next trip. It never fails that I start running low on whatever the fish are biting.
motoman Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 Good post Trav. I was just thinking about this a bit too. - Not to hi-jack your thread, but if a grub is supposed to mimic a shad; why not a hollow bodied swimbait in the same length? Those appear even more realistic, unless I'm missing something?
Trav Posted May 5, 2008 Author Posted May 5, 2008 Thats a good question motoman! Maybe a sinking shad rap? "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
Trav Posted May 5, 2008 Author Posted May 5, 2008 I was thinking about fishing the Shell Knob area but I am not married to the notion. Is the whole lake pretty much in the same pattern? Also, I hear that the Kings arm was pretty much a waste of time. Does that still hold true? Hey Bill, if you bought all the good bait up, do I have to get them that your bootlegging out of your garage? Hehe Whats your profit margin? 60% or so? "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Fishing Buddy Don House Posted May 5, 2008 Fishing Buddy Posted May 5, 2008 Guy's I use the 5" Milky salt and pepper from BPS, also I big fan of Yamamoto 4 and 5 inch in blue pearl and silver flakes, Smoke grey, Smoke with red flakes and all white with and w/o silver flakes, also Zoom Fat Alberts in all colors, including green pepper in clear water. White S/P seems to be the best right now with the dirtier water. Rig them on a 3/8 dart head in the windy water and 1/4 on calm days. Just about all of the lake is on the grub in most parts, I have heard of the Football Jig bite up the white when these fish are on the bottom. But that changes everyday. Look for fish in the 25 - 40 feet range on the flats or gental sloping pea gravel points, anywhere there is access to a spawning area. Slow roll, you must feel the bottom if fish are on the bottom, if up suspended use a count down to get to the right water depth. Use your electronics to find these fish out in deeper water, once you find them hang on they are feeding.. Also don't leave out the new swimming baits out there on the market, some of these do really work, I really like the new Storm swimming baits, pre-rigged and read for use, 2", 4", 6" shad colored.. Give them a try.. Good Fishing Capt. Don Capt. Trav Posted May 5, 2008 Author Posted May 5, 2008 I have some of the 5 inch blue/white pearl Bass Magic swimbaits that work really well here on the Lower Taney in mid summer. Might give it a shot on Wedsnesday and Thursday for those stagers. I think I will still hit BP and get some Salt/Pepper grubs anyway. If they arent all in Bills garage/bootleg sale.
