Seth Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Thanks for the report Ozarkgunner. I know that I catch some pretty nice crappie in my throw net trying for shad about 80 yards down from the boating line where the bank cuts back. There must be some brush piles or something right on the tip of that spot. Maybe I'll be able to run up there Sunday because Saturday is kids fishing day at Maramec Springs and I've got several cousins and my girlfriends sister who are really looking forward to that so I don't want to break there little hearts. It's a great time too though so it won't pain me too much to miss out on Bagnell another day.
Bittle Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Me and friend fished below the dam on the rocky side of the river. The fish seemed to still be deep. We didn't get to the water until just before 10am. First cast, a keeper white bass. I thought that was too easy. And it was. I caught 5 crappie before we broke for lunch. Mostly on slab hunters, but also on sliders. After lunch we saw a guy catching from the bank consistantly. He had 10 when a boat moved in about 30 feet in front of him and started fishing. Afterwards he caught nothing. Then another boat moved in almost 10 feet from them. The first boat started catching fish nearly every cast. They were throwing two lures at once and even catching 2 at a time. They fished there keeping who knows how many before moving. After they left and right before dark we started catching crappie. We ended up cleaning 21. People fishing from the boats were catching very consistantly. The fished seem to be stacked in the old turbine channel. I just wish the boat fisherman would not invade just because they can. Makes me want to carry a gun.
Seth Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 that's the heck of it when you are limited to the bank. That's why I invested in a boat finally. There were way too many times where I wished I had one and it made the difference between a good fishing trip and a bad one. Bank fishing the Truman tailrace is ideal because they have the no boating zone just for anglers.
