Members Brando Posted May 12, 2008 Members Posted May 12, 2008 I went to the dam both this morning and this evening.. and we caught 54 hog crappie and 23 white bass.. The shad are everywhere ( but so are the gar) so the fishing is hot. It seems they were hitting on just about anything you would throw at them so use your cheap tackle b/c you can get away with it!! All the Flood gates were open and there wasnt much of a crowd mainly due to the holiday. But anyways we caught em on both sides using jigs of all the colors of the rainbow so all you have to do is be there to get your fish!!!!

Seth Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Glad to hear that! I am planning a trip up there Saturday if the weather is nice. My buddy and his dad went last week catfishing below the dam and they were throwing back 6-7 pound blues like catching bluegill. The biggest they landed was a 20 pounder and they lost another just as big. We've always caught a lot of catfish up there, but never the size that they got in to. Then again, we usually don't start fishing up there until later in the summer. I'll be sure to fill up on the crappie fillets hopefully. A man can never have enough crappie in the freezer.

Just be careful of your possession limit... people see you keeping alot of fish- they may call an agent and he will knock on your door. Not saying you are or would Seth but it's easy to do when fishing is HOT!!
creek wader Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 It sounds as if you were fishing below the dam and you said either side was good. How deep were you fishing? What weight jig head were you using? 1/16, 1/8, 1/4? When I fished there earlier in the year the current was so strong that my 1/6 and 1/8 ounce jigs zipped by me in the current. I felt as if I wasn't getting deep enough. When I used 1/4 oz. I kept getting snagged up. I felt like a beginner. I wasn't worthy. lol wader
