bigredbirdfan Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 Good luck with restricting anything on Table Rock between the cost of $500,000 on up in the way of boats. If you want to talk about money, power and connections you can kiss their wakes.
Predator1 Posted June 23, 2008 Author Posted June 23, 2008 I appreciate all your opinions on this matter.....I am calling the Corp now that I am home from work and have read the replies. Hopefully they will have a good response like us fisherman. I'll be back. Thanks
rps Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 The first two years I lived on TR, I fished out of a Supreme. For those that don't know, that's an excellent fiberglass version of the White River float boat. They do not have floatation. I sold it and bought an Xpress because twice in one summer I was swamped by large boat wakes. >:-( Now when I go to the Norfolk or below Bull Shoals, I am back to renting. But I don't have to bail as often on TR.
Whack'emGood Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 You are probably right Bigredbirdfan... Its a shame that money talks louder than safety, but unfortunately it may be just like everything else in this world has become-- the thinking among lawmakers is "As long as the rich are happy (and stuffing lawmakers' pockets), who cares what everybody else thinks or has to deal with." "Success builds confidence, and you have to learn to trust your instincts and forget about fishing the way a tournament is supposed to be won. I'm going to fish my style and make it work for me." -KEVIN VANDAM "Confidence is the best lure in your tackle box." -GERALD SWINDLE "A-Rig? Thanks, but no thanks. If I can't catch them on the conventional tackle that I already use, then I guess I just can't catch them." -LK (WHACK'EM)
bigredbirdfan Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 Sorry to put the brakes on the momentum you had going here, but the reality is we have all done you know what up a rope and this will be an exercise in that. I had the smaller boat and they reality is go buy a bigger boat you will get much further that way.
Predator1 Posted June 24, 2008 Author Posted June 24, 2008 Well, the Corp sent me to Jefferson City Water Patrol who sent a message to Captain Gary Haupt for our TBR Area....just waiting on a call from him now. Who knows, maybe money want have to do the talking.......When I live in Marietta, Georgia in the 90's my neighborhood tried to have a redlight installed do to several accidents....the City's reply was not until someone got killed....well, three weeks later a 65 year old lady was struck and killed....A RED LIGHT was up the following week. I dont want to have to wait for something like that to happen.
Bill Babler Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Don't mean to throw a bucket of cold water on the grip secion, but I for one would be against NO WAKE at the bridges. Fisherman that are out there are impeading navigation thru a very restricted area. If the wakes are too hot, find another place to play. This would be just another job for the MSWP to have to do. Any of you want to pay more taxes? Why should we give them more to do than what is already on a full plate. On the very first ticket, I can hear it now. " Don't you have some more dangerious desperados to arrest, than me driving under a birdge"? Come on guys. The boats are running that hard till after mid-morning and they are just as deserving as we are. I don't like it either, but in that open water, we need to share. Just the thought from a guy thats out there everyday. good luck http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Whack'emGood Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 My deal is the size of the boats. There needs to be a size limit. I can see both sides of the bridge thing, but I don't fish bridge pillars for that very reason (traffic gets too close by necessity). I just don't understand why ocean-going sized boats need to plow up and down the lake at half speed (or any speed for that matter). TR is looking more and more like LOZ every day. If there is anyone out there that isn't worried about it becoming another LOZ, make a trip up there to LOZ and remind yourself what you don't want your lake to turn into. Also, pay attention to the papers and online about all of the people that get killed on LOZ every summer. We don't want that kind of tragedy happening on our lake. Whack'em I agree with a size limit on the Rock. There is no need for ocean sized vessels on the lake, A typical sized ski boat does the trick if you absolutly feel the need to go tubing or skiing. say a tahoe 222 or boats of a similar size are about the largest boats anyone should need. The yachts and double decker cruisers are a bit excessive in my opinion. We really need to use LOZ as an example of what we don't want our lake to become. I mean what purpose does a 30 or 40 ft vessel serve? Another thing that bothers me, is the fact that the people who drive these boats show no consideration for the anglers, let alone anyone else on the water. Troy Gregg
mclothier1 Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Two years ago on vacation, my bro in law rented a pontoon, you know...the kind that has the BBQ grill on the front. Anyways we were tooling down the lake with him and a bunch of the kids in the pontoon, and me and a couple passengers in my 20' Glastron. I see this HUGE cruiser coming down the lake so I gas it and stay out in front, the bro in law wasnt so lucky he saw it coming and couldnt get out of the way, he is a novice boater but he did the right thing out of instinct and pointed the bow into the wake. The front of the pontoon dug in after going over the first wave and nose dived to the point that the BBQ grill was completely submerged and the motor was out of the water, then as the pontoon popped back up the wave flushed across the deck washing out all the seat cushions, a cooler, and almost one of the kids. Scared the living crap outta him. Of course we call all laugh about it now, but to this day his Table Rock nickname is U-Boat Captain. He didnt give up on boating completely, last year he rented a 23' cruiser, this year a 21' deck boat and he did fine. Ive heard that this is the same exact situation that can cause pontoons to flip over. In retrospect I should have hung around him and made sure he was gonna be ok.
