Members Growler Posted July 10, 2008 Members Posted July 10, 2008 I've never used the liquid electrical tape. Do you paint the stuff on & let it dry? I have used silicone to patch insulation nicks in the past, but I'm intrigued by the liquid tape. Whatever you choose, as long as it creates a waterproof bond, you should be fine for awhile. I mainly wanted to add you should make sure it is only one wire nicked and you don't have other cuts that can short together. This could eventually fry your depth finder. Let us know how the liquid tape works. G
techo Posted July 10, 2008 Author Posted July 10, 2008 What a great board. Good neighbors on here. One feller from Nixa had a can of liquid tape and offered to meet me last night so I could borrow it. I almost took him up on it, but I had already taped it up for fishing today. Mrs. Techo can't find the dog in the back yard and insists I stay home and do some chores. She figures if the grass wasn't so high we might be able to see the dog. No fishing for me anyhow. I went to Lowes and picked up a can of the liquid 3M electrical insulation stuff. When I got home I used a magnafying glass to look at the damage. It turns out I cut the black wrapping, the paper insulation, and some silver colored insulation around the wires, but never even nicked the rubber wrapping around the actual wires. I put three layers of the liquid tape on. The stuff is sticky enough that it actually glued the outer black layer back down. I wrapped all of that with three layers of regular old electrical tape. I think we are going to be good to go! Thanks for the assitance. Later I might request a thread on how I need a whole new trolling motor and depth finder to show the Mrs., but for now I am off to mow the lawn. I can feel the fish taunting me from here though..... If that works let me know. I am trying to convince my wife we need a new 20ft Champ. Bill Babler had a talk with her on my behalf on why I really need it, all to no avail. Shes stubburn about it. techo Posted July 10, 2008 Author Posted July 10, 2008 Apparently we are married to the same woman! I am just kidding. My mrs is pretty low maintenance. I just don't need much fancy stuff. I like my little depth finder it speaks my language. There are times when I am reading the board and I would like a little fancier one which is a bit more sensitive. Depth finder, not wife! SKMO Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 . There are times when I am reading the board and I would like a little fancier one which is a bit more sensitive. Depth finder, not wife! Who in their right mind would want a more "sensitive" wife. Mine came with a hair trigger. rps Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Just now I started laughing out loud at the posts in this thread. My wife of 36 years looked up and asked what was so funny. She was disappointed I would laugh at something like that. I told her I would promptly chastise you for your inappropriate behavior. Consider yourselves chastised.
denjac Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 rps, I felt the look all the way here in Joplin. In all fairness I have a wonderful wife. Lets me fish all that I want to, never gripes when I spend to much at the tackle store. Shes a keeper! Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. Members Growler Posted July 11, 2008 Members Posted July 11, 2008 Yes, we are ALL lucky...we fish right? As for me, I have a wonderful girlfriend (years now) who loves to fish as much as I do. I figure the best way to ensure new gear & toys is to get your loved-one involved. This summer gf & I purchased a bass boat together (used & inexpensive...our style). techo, I'm really glad to hear the liquid tape worked so well. I'm going out to purchase some tomorrow. In my business I frequently have to repair cables in the field. How long did it take to dry? G
Predator1 Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Hey denjac, Tell her she can drive the boat for you. Worked for me, my fiance' found me a boat on Craig's list, even wrote the check for it till the following Friday when I got Paid. I'm just glad she loves to fish. My fishing partners are always late to launch. She's not. We headed to Mexico on our honeymoon in October. She's really excited about fishing down there too. Techo, Glad you got your wires fixed. Sure beats electrical tape, tape can get messy after exposed to the heat for too long.
