flyfshn Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Has anyone ever stayed at Circle J campground, just outside BS state park? If so, is it nice? Are the roads paved and easy to get around? Any info would be appreciated! Fish On! Mike Utt “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery. Kansas Fly Fisher Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Stayed there one time a couple of years ago. It's a nice place and the accommodations are okay. If I remember right the roads were not paved and it was built along the side of the hill. The campsites are level with fairly easy access. Overall it was a nice stay and I would not have a problem staying there again. However, my first choice would be the campground #5 at the park. Hope this helps John Born to Fish, Forced to Work KSMEDIC.COM
hfdhoosier Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 I drove past there the last time I was at Bennett, looked fairly nice. When you going? Maybe CadillaCricket will provide more info. Dennis Eat, Fish, Sleep,....Repeat Member: ozarkflyfishers http://www.ozarkflyfishers.org/
flyfshn Posted July 11, 2008 Author Posted July 11, 2008 hfd, was hoping to get down there 7/25 - 7/29. The wife wants to stay at the park, but they are full and she wasn't crazy about staying at a new place. If it is decent, I was going to talk her into staying there. Is campground 5 still first come first serve?? Might stand a chance if I came down on Thursday morning. Fish On! Mike Utt “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery. Kansas Fly Fisher Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Campground 5 is still first come first serve. Get there Thursday and you may get lucky. I prefer 5 over the rest anyway. John Born to Fish, Forced to Work KSMEDIC.COM
brittsnbirds Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 flyfshn- If your pulling a trailer, I wouldn't get down there too much before 12. Check-out is 2pm. Last time I was down I arrived on Thursday morning early thinking I would get a spot. No luck, everyone that was scheduled to leave was fishing. I drove around in a circle for a while and noticed several tags indicating that some people were leaving. I picked the best site for me and approached some campers (that finally woke up) about them leaving. They agreed to let me put a cooler and chair on their site until they left. All you have to do is put a "significant" piece of equipment on the site to reserve it. Worked out however you never know down there if a place will be available. Pat
flyfishmaster Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 My brother and I have stayed at Circle J a few times over the last 10 years (I have not been there this year). All sites or fairly level, but not much room between sites. The bathrooms were not that great. The one good part was the on-site diner, not a bad breakfast, but I don't recommend the dinner. If you are looking for a place just to set up the camper and sleep this is good spot, other than that I would try some place else it can be a bit noisey at times. Later, FFM Woo Hoo Fish On!!
patfish Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Flyfshn, there's a campground that Sand Spring runs that is on the other side of the river. You can find it on their site. It also looks like it may be good for river fishing when the park is done for the day. Also, even though its a drive to the park, I've always been intrigued by the Tee Pees at Redbeard's ranch. Get a load of me, throwing out places I've never even stayed! What gives?!?!
Greg Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 I've not ever stayed at the Circle J - but I've been by it several times and considered staying there. Without saying too much and offending anyone - we (my wife and I) have decided against ever staying there.
