JJ, Good attitude dude...wish more of us had that outlook!

Thanks, But I did have a time when I would get pissed. And tell some schmo off. Normally when like the OP stated it interfered with my families ability to fish unmolested by a spot grabber or something similar. So I can relate with his and others frustrations. I wish there were clear cut rules of etiquette like in bowling but there are not and the old ones were not really designed by people considering a mile or so of stream occupied buy possibly a couple thousand visitors daily.

However as seldom as I have actually been able to get away over the last several seasons. I had to make the decision not to bother getting in a huff over something I had absolutely zero control over. My time is better spent enjoying the positives of the experience.

Others mileage my very.

JJ

The biggest thing to remember is don't let someone ruin your day at the river. Everywhere you go there is people like that, on the road, in stores, parking lots, just everywhere. I hate to not say something to them and sometimes I do let them get to me. I'm trying to learn to be thicker skinned. It hurts but you got to let it go and have a good day.

Hi Murdoc! Good to see you on here occasionally. I can't imagine you saying anthing bad to anyone, even if they deserve it.

Thanks again for the handcrafted fly box! How are the nets coming along?

Hey Gang,

My take on this whole deal I've already told JJ how I feel. I expect to be near people when fishing the parks. But, I don't feel as if when there is plenty of room for someone else to fish that they come and stand beside or me walk in front of me. In try real hard not to let people bother me most times. It just seems sometimes that people leave their courtesy at home when they come to a trout park. I've been fishing Montauk and Bennett since I was very young. My parents taught me etiquette of trout park fishing. Trout fishing is something of a new thing to a lot of people brought about by "THE MOVIE". I believe that when a tag is purchased they should hand out a flyer with do's and don'ts of trout park fishing. Maybe half of the people that have no clue will read it and learn what they are doing wrong. I honestly believe that some people know, but just don't care.

The aduluts and kids walking behind you while you are trying to reach the other bank obviously don't have the first clue whats going on. That can be understood. Some folks say that they will learn when they get a hook in their ear. Personally I don't want to see anyone get hurt. I saw a boy with a barbed hook in his eye once when I was younger from being in someones back cast in Zone 1. I never want to see someone go through what that child went through again. Its pretty clear that the boy or his parents that was with him had no idea of the danger they were in behind people making long casts.

Have a great week,

Rich

NoLuck,

That was stated very well.

When I was down at Bennett a few weeks ago, there was ton of room. I was fishing below the arch bridge in the riffles in zone 2. There was no one around and I was cast a dry upstream and was letting it drift along the bank. This angler that looked like he knew what he was doing walked right in front of me making cast. My first thought was to say something or cast at him. I elected to climb out of the water and put my rod up.

Another time was free fishing day 2007 when 2 grown men from Kansas was fishing off of the rock dam in zone 1. A gentleman from St. Louis was kindly enough to let them know that there is a sign behind them that say's not to fish on the the dam or right above or below. The 2 men was wanting to fight the kind gentlman that was only trying to help them out. At that time I went to back up the very kind gentleman and at that point it was over.

Anyway, I will stick to the off season of trout parks and the silver hatch on the rivers. It cost to much money in gas for a wasted trip to Bennett.

Regards,

TS

Goodness, when was THE MOVIE, 1992? Surely if those people are still fly fishing, they've joined a club, been to a class or read a book or two.

I do agree, good manners should be posted; for rookies to read-to avoid embarrassment; and so you and I can just point; or ask Mr./Ms Rude, to please read the Rules of Etiquette posted at stream side. I think that's a great idea, and should make confrontations rare, therefore making it easier for park employees.

Guys and Gals,

You have to learn how to play the "GAME OF MANNERS." When I am in the trout parks I fish mostly the fly zones except at Mer. Springs. I can hold my own when it comes to catching trout park fish. Most of the time the people that run you over, try to elbow you out of a spot, have noticed that you have been catching fish and they have not, so they decide to invite themselves to your spot.

Now is the time to turn evil. Go right over to where the rude person(s) came from and start catching fish. This really pisses them off because the do not understand that the REASON they cannot catch fish is they do not know how. You will start to get very good at doing this, pay back is fun. You can hear the rude person or persons talk to each other. Every once in a while one of the rude peson(s) will back track and ask how I am catching fish and I tell them with "manners" of couse and I would be very glad to teach them some manners cause I can tell they do not have any. Most of the time they just turn and get away from me. A few, over the years have made a remark, but they soon back down. ( it helps to have an 18 inch neck )

Next up is the rude wader guy that wades in front of you. You have to turn this into a positive and become one with the trout. If you watch the rude wader lots of time they kick up the bottom and surrounding trout just love the easy pickin's. So when the rude wader has his back turn just cast your fly close to him and hope for the best. If you get a strike, let the trout go and run between and/or around the rude waders legs. Its fun to see the rude wader try to get out of the way, sometime they even will take a swim. My record is 2 swimmers in one day. I mean what can the rude wader say? You had a fish on.

So as most of the posters have said just develop patients with this people. But no one said I could not have fun with them!!!

Maybe they should sell the book titled "Rod Rage" in the trout parks and I would have to include some areas of the Upper Taney
