RiverRunner Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 Nice catch, even though I wish they would have let it go, the odds probably wouldn't have been too great on it surviving. A protracted fight, on any kind of tackle, would have been very hard on any fish that size. However, I would imagine that this fish made several spawning runs, so I would bet its good genes are still in the system. That's a catch of a lifetime for that gentleman, there is no reason to gripe about it. It was unlikely to be caught again. I get more upset watching someone put a 3 lber on a stringer, at least they have the ability to grow some more and provide enjoyment to other anglers. What is the state record in MO?
Members Dumb to fishing Posted July 22, 2008 Members Posted July 22, 2008 Jealous, that'd be a no. Frustrated that a obvious novice "didnt know about replicas" and decided to kill it? More accurate. But thanks for playing. Maybe he was hungry?
ekl-stl Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 The state record is 27.10 caught in 2005. I think it is safe to say there are multiple browns over 30lbs in that river... Some that look like they could consume a small child..
Micheal Kyle Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 Congrats, What a fish!!! Like I have said in the past this Fall might be one for the record books oh boy I can't wait Michael To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!

Murdoc Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 Congrats!!!! Thrilling!! I would pass out at 15lbs and you would have to bury me at 25lbs!!! Congrats!! I need to go fishing!!! Your record is safe for now laker!!! Smiles are free http://rdpflyrods.com/
perchjerker Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 WEEEOOO!!! What a fish.Congrats to Mr. Lucky for catching it.When the fish of a lifetme comes a knockin I can't say what I would do. If I was sure it would have a chance to live I would probably put him back, but I would be lying if I said I would'nt enjoy taking that puppy to every Bar I've been to, and show him off. Only regret is that if he did stay in the lake, he looks big enough to take on some of the Giant Taney Squids and win...
Members Poke 'Em Posted July 23, 2008 Members Posted July 23, 2008 Nice jab at the civilized fisherman . Whether someone chooses to use a fly rod or spin tackle, a fish like this is still one in a million and in most cases the fish of a lifetime. The joy and excitement of a catching a 20+ pound fish can be shared through photos and replicas. There simply is no reason that a fish like this shouldnt be returned to the water. Ignorance or greed would be at the top of my list of unacceptable reasons. -Jerod Except maybe if the fish couldn't be revived... If the fish is going to die anyway, you might as well keep it.
am4mu Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 WOW WHAT A HORSE!!! Just curious, do you folks think this horse was released from the hatcheries show tank or has this fish been lurking in Taney for some time? I wish this fish could have survived, but in my humble opinion that was probably not possible. Congrats to the lucky individual that caught this fish.
