Anyone have any suggestions of what color and type of line to use when fishing for smallies?? I have always used 6 lb blue supermono spiderwire but it seems to always twist....

I have always used 6# or 8# Berkley Vanish Flourocarbon. It has good knot strength and is abrasion resistent.

I've always used 6# Maxima Ultra Green. Its really limp and small in diameter for its strength. Line twist is something you need to take care of before you go fishing. Sometimes while fishing spinners you still get line twist. I make a habit after about ten cast to hold up the rod with the lure hanging and let it uncoil.

I use flurocarbon line for smallmouth fishing. I have it in 8/10/15 # test.

What do you mean before I go?? Is there a way you put it on the spool that can help prevent twists?? Or do you do something after it is on the spool to prevent this??

The method of spooling on line can help to keep line from twisting. You can be sure that it comes off the way it is wrapping on or take it off the top. If you need additional work on the line then put a good ball bearing swivel on it and walk off your line. Hold the line by your finger and thumb of the off hand and crank back to the swivel. You may need a cloth or glove to keep the friction down as you reload the spool. Then use Real Magic or some other line conditioner before you go.

Didn't know there was any tricks for keeping the line from twisting up... I have just gotten really good at undoing birds nests.. You wouldn't believe the dogknots I can get untied in the dark with a gnat in one eye and a tree branch bumping the boat!
