Hunter91 Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 A buddy and I went out of Cape Fair this morning early. Saw some topwater activity through all the fog but never caught any on topwaters. Switched over to the football jig before the fog lifted and fished it til about 11am. We caught 8 bass with 3 keepers to 3lbs. Lost at least that many also. Most were between 10-17ft. Seemed like there was a boat on every point up that way this morning.
techo Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 A friend of mine called and said they did real well near Cape Fair. Wouldn't tell me what they were using, but I highly suspect it was the Jewel jigs. Wishin I was fishin! Tim Carpenter
Sam Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 We fished around Long Creek last night with Texas-rigged 11" worms from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. We caught 8 good largemouths from 17" to 20 1/2" and only one short fish, a 14-incher. That doesn't mean the bite wasn't slow - it seemed real slow with maybe one bite per hour between the two of us. The size of the fish made up for it, though. All bites were in about 17 to 20 feet of water around flooded trees and bluff ends. Surface water temp was 91 when we got there and 88 when we left, so I was surprised they were biting at all that shallow.
Members itsthejash Posted August 4, 2008 Members Posted August 4, 2008 Me and my friend fished near Cape Fair, Saturday night through this morning. I had decent luck around 11PM Saturday using a Texas-rigged worm, then caught a few Sunday morning on a crankbait, none of them were keepers though. My friend caught a couple this morning on a worm and one on a spinnerbait Sunday afternoon.
Spinnaker Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 I have not fished the Cape Fair area at all. I usually stay at the Hollister area and do OK down there. But I hear good things about the Cape fair area and want to try that. The fish you fellas caught were Largemouth? I like all bass fishing but especially smallmouth. Do you have any recommendations on a place to stay with a dock, electrical and launch facilities? Thanks.
