fly2fish Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Fished Fri. Sat. & Sun. nights. Was checked at outlet 1 Sat. night after midnight by MDC officer, told him glad to see him down there that late was only one other fisherman down there at that time. He said they were going to be making frequent stops at night. Now for the report Fri night 2 Kentuckies and 1 smallmouth and several bows and brown 14-21 inches, Sat. night all bows and browns biggest was a brown just under 20in. Sun. night first fish was a brown just over 21 in. then the next cast one at 19 in. was about 20 minutes before another fish. Ended up with 5 browns and 4 rainbows. Every fish was caught on a PMS jig rolled or bounced off the bottom, some hit right before it reached the bottom on the fall so keep your line tight on the fall. HC
laker67 Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 fly2fish, Thanks for reporting your trip. I'm glad to hear that you got into some quality fish. I hope MDC follows up on the random checks after dark. During the day, fishermen like you and I are able to keep the area somewhat in check. I have seen evidence lately of several plastic baits being used, even found an empty jar of salmon eggs 2 weeks ago. All of the illegal baits that I have found are at and near outlet #1. Good fishing to you!
zsmith62 Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 It's not just outlet one, last sunday I found an empty mister twister grub package on outlet 2, and actually saw a guy fishing behind the cable with powerbait about two weeks ago. Zach Smith

I don't know what the answer is Zack. Regulation signs are posted at every access. These people are either not reading, not understanding, or not caring.
zsmith62 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 I've found that the best way to get some of these people to change (at least temporarily) is to confront them, and at least embarass them into changing their tactics for as long you are there. Zach Smith
Murdoc Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 I just think they don't care. I was down by outlet 2 Tuesday afternoon and there at the bottom of the stairs was a guy using pink power bait. He knew and didn't care at all! He wasn't catching anything was the only good thing about it. I didn't say anything but I should have. Late last fall I was down and there were three guys fishing down by the big hole and I could see they were pretty nervious and when they would catch one they would walk to the weeds and do something with the fish. They were not keepers by any means. I kept my eye on them and in a little while a young man I know to be a guide came walking up and started talking to them. They picked up their fish and strolled off with their buddy the guide just lauphing it up and so was the guide. I'm not too impressed with the young man anymore if he lets his friends get away with this kind of actions. Smiles are free http://rdpflyrods.com/
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted August 7, 2008 Root Admin Posted August 7, 2008 PM me if you know the guide's name. MDC checked our dock yesterday. Don't think any tickets were issued but never know. There's been a group of people at the ramp below the dam the past two evenings fishing, exercising "Kim Che" as my wife informed me and have a generally good time. Don't think they're catching fish. Didn't get close enough to see how they were fishing though so I can't say for sure... There's ALWAYS going to be people all of kinds around the lakes and rivers who don't know or don't care. Just the way it is.
