jjtroutbum Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Any ideas or input would be welcome. Brands to avoid, quality bargain priced, What makes one better than another? Going to do some more research but thought it couldn't heart to ask these questions here. patfish Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 JJ, a while back I asked my little brother the Uber-geek about monitors and his reply was basically they are all pretty much the same(manufacturers), but with different names. Unless you go the ultra high end route.
Terry Beeson Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 That's pretty much true... Depending on what you want to spend and what you want to do... Basic surfing and work I would recommend a 17-19 inch flatscreen. If you want to do high end graphics - games, movies, etc... Go with a bigger one and look into wide screen... Also, if you are looking at that, you want to look at the video card in your PC. That's as important as the monitor for that... I'm partial to Dell myself... We have boo-koo of them in the SOMHS network and they seem to do us very well... bigredbirdfan Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Stay away from ACER, pure crap. I order all of them for our office and I hate the Dell Company but the monitors are good. If you buy Dell it is a given you will deal with their foreign customer service at some point. Given the right price I buy View Sconic or Samsung for all of our CAD Stations. Should be able to get nice wide monitor $200 +/- in these two brands.
bigredbirdfan Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 I have an ACER flat screen and really like it. To each their own. Someone else in our office bought two for two drafts people and both screens turned yellow/greenish and have stayed that way every since. They are set up at workstations using two monitors side by side and they look terrible compared with other brands right next to them. I would probably get rid of them if I had to work with them and by the way it is both of them not just one of them.
Bman Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 JJ I love my ulstrasharp Dell widescreen flat panel 24". In the mall kosiks they say the mac folks most always get them as well. The only good line is a tight line

LostMyWife Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 We have used numerous Flat Screens over the years. Rating them 1 to 10 as follows: Acer 4 avoid like th eplague Dell 2 I hate there PC's, support everything about them HP 7 For the money this is the best we have had. This is my personal favortie and the only one I have personnaly used. Sony 10 The moost expensive we have used and also the best. You pay for the name, but the name is worth it. If you are playing games or watching DVD/Blu ray, this is the way to go. Think wide screen. It is the wave of the future. The bigger the better. Yes, I'm That Guy
