cotterboy2007 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Me and Steve Brigman fished out of Rim Shoals on Thursday evening and Friday Morning. Thursday was slow, but at lest steady. Fish started bitng aroung 6:30 for a good hour or so. I land one good brown on a lucky carft slender pointer. Around 27 inches long, just shy of 7 pounds. On the other hand, firday morning was one of the poorest days i have ever had. We tried all manner of hardbaits including single hooked countdowns in the C&R without a touch. I tried the jig, but I just can't seem to fish them effectively in this really high water. It seems like after 5 or 6 units, I can't feel them good enough to be confiedent in them, and I always kinda considered the jig to be my best technique. Anyway, caught one fish on friday from 8 to 12. We were not set up to drag fish or I would have broke out the red worms, or god forbid a jar of powerbait or old faithful can of corn. It was that bad.
Ham Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Fun time for me to be learning my boat. I fished for a little while out of Rim Shoals last Sunday afternoon. I got lots of hits on a jig, but only landed one cold largemouth on it. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
RSBreth Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Wow, nice. I haven't been down there in about 2 years, but it's a spot that can be tough. I didn't know you knew Brigman.
bigredbirdfan Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Very nice fish, especially with the guest in your company. Have you thrown a blue/orange belly rogue? My guide has been catching them down there on that. He has had poor days mixed in with good as well. Just the fish I guess.
cotterboy2007 Posted August 13, 2008 Author Posted August 13, 2008 i tried the blue/orange rogue, husky jerk, xrap, and rattletrap. I think the fish I am after only feed a few times per day on this real high water, and bites can really be few and far between. I have known Brigman for 5 or 6 years. We met up bowhunting in northern Missourri and became fast friends. He comes and fishes with me 4 or 5 times a year. He actually caught the biggest fish my boat has ever seen.. It was 30+ inches long and weighed inthe 12 to 13 pound range. I posted the big bad brown story earlier in the year. It was from when he was at the news leader. RS, do you know Brigman, or just from his writing.
