Brian K. Shaffer Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 I remember when you could drive all the way to the edge of Taneycomo by Outlet 2.. and you could park right by the bridge over outlet 3. best fishes - Brian Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.

timsfly Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 I started fishing Taney in 1976, it was great then and great now. Tim Homesley 23387 st. hwy 112 Cassville, Mo 65625 Roaring River State park Tim's Fly Shop www.missouritrout.com/timsflyshop
rainbow Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 I started in July 1973 and the fishing was great. There were very few houses above the monkey island area. I first learned of Taneycomo watching the old Virgil Ward show in the winter of 73 and was determined to get there and fish in a non trout park setting. I boat fished part of the weekend and waded at the hatchery in shorts and tennis shoes, no waders. Could stay in the water for a few minutes and then out. I have been going there ever since and now have waders.
Kansas Fly Fisher Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 I'm a rookie at Taney. This last year was my first. I think I've found a new home water though! Love it and can't wait for my next trip down. John Born to Fish, Forced to Work KSMEDIC.COM
CaptainT16 Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 I started fishing Taney in 1976, it was great then and great now. I was born in 76 and wished I had been fishing it since then. I actually started in 2002. Went to Wal-Mart and got me a cheap fly rod to try and learn on. Rod worked great, but glad I finally got me a nice rod from Cabelas. Probably the best place to learn to fly fish on. Looking forward to my trip down there next weekend. Hopefully will get to meet a few of you. jOrOb Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 I am with the Captain on this one. I was born in '73, so I didn't take up any fishing till almost '75. Then it was almost 30 years of warm water for me. I discovered fly fishing in 2002 as well. Early spring 2001, my neighbor took me over to the White to bait fish and we caught a lot of fish. So I started taking my then 7 year old son over there since he could catch fish pretty easily and consistently. It didn't take long to get bored with chunking bait and start looking. So, like the Captain, I bought a SA from Wally world and started waving. Dano taught me how to cast (as well as most of what I know about fishing), and you guys did the rest. Taney has always been better for me than the White. There is too much water on the White to sort out. jOrOb "The Lord has blessed us all today... It's just that he has been particularly good to me." Danoinark Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 Thanks for the kind words JoRob, but you are a heck of a caster, and much better than I will probably ever be. The only thing I did was maybe show you where 10 oclock and 2 oclock were...you lay out good line and you did it yourself. That has always been my story, show somebody something and they show me up .. But the neat thing is JoRob has introduced his son to the sport, so the circle isn't broken. Isn't that the way it's supposed to be? Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
97procraft Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 I have been trout fishing since I was 14. Started using a flyrod when I was 18. Started tying my own flies at 19, that was the year I first fished Taneycomo. My father took me, and we both have been hooked ever since. Last year I took my father-in-law down for his first trout fishing experience. He loved it so much, he is making me take him again this year. I have been fishing Taney for 10 years now and I have completely forgot about those trout parks.
