Murdoc Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 I hope this gets taken care of. I fished around Shell Knob for years and the Pizza Hut cove was a dumping ground for raw sewage. We complained for years and findly after 10 years of complaining we quit and I think someone did something then. Like they said Catch and Release!! Smiles are free http://rdpflyrods.com/
Project Healing Waters Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 This subdivision is at the top of Skyline Drive up on the hill overlooking Hwy 165 on the same side of the highway as the fly shops, Welk Resort, etc. If you are familiar with the topography, this is an unnamed "ditch" that runs from there down to Taneycomo roughly in the area of Fall Creek. This area is not inside the city limits of Branson, and falls under the jurisdiction of Taney County. And it has long been a source of shoddy infrastructure, blighted neighborhoods, and shady deals regarding utilities. Everything up there is also solid rock. There is very little soil. So there is no such thing as a septic tank or small-scale sewage treatment facility that is going to work properly. These small systems (that keep getting approved by Taney County) rely upon leach-fields. But you can't run a small leach-field array in nothing but rock and expect it to work. It's a cosmetic solution that meets the inadequate standards of the law, but that doesn't actually accomplish what the law was intended to do. But make no mistake about it: this sewage IS entering Taneycomo near or at Fall Creek...perhaps further upstream than that. http://www.projecthealingwaters.org

Fishhand Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 The only "trib" is Fall Creek but there are minor ditches above Fall Creek. The one that runs thru Pointe Royal and a couple other minor runoff ditches. But it might run into the lake at outlet #3. It can't be above outlet #1 unless it comes thru the rocks. The flow you see there is directly from hatchery raceways. I bet you're correct Phil about the runoff at outlet #3. The holler that runs between the Chateau and Skyline empties into Outlet 3, doesn't it? I'm pretty sure there's a culvert that runs under Hwy 165. I saw a DNR truck parked at that nearest road up from the new SOH hatchery entrance during the last month, or so. Baylor Drive? I was wondering what they were up to.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted August 16, 2008 Root Admin Posted August 16, 2008 Report is wrong. No ditches above the hatchery.
taxidermist Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 So how big are the turds? Puts a whole new meaning on catching a brownie!!

There is a 'possibility' that there is a very, very small amount getting into Taney, but nobody has done any testing to determine this. We are talking about 10 homes here and how many are actually occupied? This was brought to the Attorney General because the treatment facility that is on sight is not working properly. There will be an injunction (very soon) and an outside company will be assigned to remove all of the waste from this treatment facility and take it to a working facility until the homeowners either get the facility working properly again or they tie into Branson's sewage system. This is what happens when Taney County (and they are not alone on this subject, this is statewide) grant 10 homeowners the responsibility of maintaining a treatment facility. They (the homeowners) don't have anybody on hire to maintain this facility at all. These treatment facilities do require maintenance. Fear not gentleman, this will be rectified without harm to Lake Taneycomo. I'll be down in 2 weeks and I WILL be eating my trout.

I guarantee you...along with every single hydrologist on Earth...that a diluted form of that sewage is making it to Taneycomo. How diluted is the question. And if DNR has issued citations and referred it to the AG with a recommendation for fines I strongly suspect there have been tests done. Law of physics: liquids seek their own level. Thus, ALL liquids flow DOWN through ALL watersheds until they reach the ocean...period. "We all live downstream." http://www.projecthealingwaters.org

And I can guarantee you that NO testing has been done. The case was referred to the AG because an inspection revealed the problems with the treatment facility previously mentioned in this thread, not because of testing in the lake itself. There is no more (if any) raw sewage getting into the lake from this development then gets in from a good rain washing all of the other animal fecal matter from the surrounding areas into the lake.
Guest kevinkirk Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 I used to design treatment plants for cities. I always had to laugh at ppl who didnt want their sewer bills to go up YET they wanted to continue to use the toilet etc. Its a fact of life isnt it? Unless you live way out and can take care of your own. So many ppl and so many flushes. THE FUNNIEST was to monitor the flows during christmas and super bowl games. You could gauge the halftime by the amount of water coming down the pipe. And mornings and evenings, you could tell when the washing machines came on and showers taken. Was so interesting...well to me anyway..hah
