bikehikefish Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 He is talking about nylon sewing thread that you can buy at Walmart and other places. It is about 3/4 lb test, so set your drag real loose. I used to use it, buy now I think it is overkill and just use the 2 lb test.
shawncat Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Yes Bikehikefish is right, same thread.I too think it's overkill sometimes, but it's strong stuff, stronger than you would think.I prefer the 2lps. green maxima, but carry a spool of wally's thread whether spin or fly fishing. The nylon thread spools are small and easy to carry. The only problem I've found with it,seems to break down quick.Dont last as long as premium mono/floro.
trizkid Posted August 21, 2008 Author Posted August 21, 2008 alright thanks guys......i will have to try some I plan on going down to the spring on the 1st......i justgot some dry fits and some w20 wading boots i want to try out.......but it sounds like to me it might be easier to just tie on some 1lb maxima tippet to your line or maybe even some tecton 2lb....which is thinner than maxima 1lb if i remember correctly....anyway thanks again.....if anyone else plans on going down that day let me know.. TrIzzout
shawncat Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Dont forget to check the river out, wont be long before those browns start moving upriver.
Seth Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Hi Jeremy. I'll have to give you some jigs and stuff next time you go down there so you can catch some "grout". Even better is if we can just go down there and fish at the same time then I can try to show you how it all works in person. Just do what the pro's do and run a 10/0 treble hook through their bellies. I GUARANTEE you will catch fish....or get in trouble trying.
