patfish Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Man Makes Record Catch With Barbie Fishing Rod Thursday, August 21, 2008 ELKIN, N.C. — David Hayes' granddaughter just ask him to hold her Barbie rod and reel while she went to the bathroom. He did. And seconds later he landed the state record channel catfish at 21 pounds, 1 ounce. Alyssa's father had bought the pink Barbie fishing rod for Christmas and she had caught a few bluegill before her grandfather hauled in the catfish. The Winston-Salem Journal reported the catch Aug. 5 in eastern Wilkes County has been certified as a record by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. Hayes and his granddaughter have been fishing in the pond behind his house since she was big enough to hold a pole. Hayes says his granddaughter worried he would break her rod. He landed the 21-pound fish on a 6-pound test line. It was 32 inches long, 2 inches longer than the rod.
laker67 Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Terry Beeson will have a field-day with this one! Come on Beeson, don't keep us waiting!
bigredbirdfan Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Terry Beeson will have a field-day with this one! Come on Beeson, don't keep us waiting! Why. Does he own a few? Or is it just comical when someone who knows little about and fishes very seldom is blessed by the good lord and catches something most of us go after all the time and don't get. Particularly funny when it involves powerbait and not a fly rod . Maybe a world record trout awaits those who would use a Barbie Rod and Rainbow power bait .
mosouthpaw Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 ive been eyeing the star wars pole at bass pro... they outta make it glow green like a lilght saber and make sounds when you cast. If so id buy one.

Bigred, That's the intrique of the sport, you never know what the next cast will bring. But believe me when I say, be patient, keep casting your fly rod, it can happen.

If so id buy one. They have one that looks like a lightsaber handle. My question about this is, as one who fishes with his kids, why didn't he give it to her to catch? It was her pole.
Whack'emGood Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Check this out. My Neice (on my wife's side) down in Texas caught a 50lb Black Drum on a Barbie Rod awhile back. http://www.khou.com/news/local/stories/kho...sh.477f31f.html I think her dad (Kirk) might have helped her a little to land it though. If I can't catch them on the conventional tackle that I already use, then I guess I just can't catch them." -LK (WHACK'EM)
