I fished crane creek from 3:30pm to 5:00pm today. It was my first time fishing this creek and I ended up catching 8 rainbows between 10 and 13 inches. I also had 6 more hooked including a 16 incher that broke me off. I started fishing at the footbridge and ended by the baseball field. Is this one of the better areas, or shoud I try somewhere else next time? I couldn't find any other easy access points.

Crane is a beautiful piece of water. I'd encourage you to explore all of the MO Dept of Conservation Areas, but stay off the private marked areas.

From what I hear about Crane, that was one GREAT first time effort there. Congrats.

Crane fished very good today, I took the spinning rod and fly rod, because I knew some of the water I was going to fish was wider and slower than on the upper end.

I fished down below the dairy farm, I went all the way to the end of the conservation area and walked back up, nasty going the floods have taken the mowed road out

and it is covered in trees and briars now, it doesn't take mother nature long to take an area back over.

Got down to the end, started throwing a pine squirrel streamer in black on a #8 hook, I use a 1/32 oz worm weight to throw this on the spinning rod, first cast caught

a small rainbow, second cast caught as big a horny head as I've ever caught, 12" or a little bigger, should have taken a pic.

I had 7 nice trout on the pine squirrel streamer in about 30 minutes, had two really nice fish on that I didn't land, I put a black 1/16th oz jig on to fish a fast run, and caught a

nice 13" smallmouth, and then about an hour later I caught a nice pickerel about 12" and it got hot so I headed back, I stopped by the bridge below the dairy farm, I was going

to fish down there a bit, but there was a white van already there and didn't want to mess up anybody fishing below, I made a last cast under the bridge with my black

pine squirrel streamer, didn't catch any but had a nice one follow it out once and had a small one hit it just as I was bringing it out from under the bridge.

All in all it was a nice day on the creek, never did use the fly rod today, but it was fun anyway.

Thanks for all the replys. I didn't see any snakes but I was definatly looking. Iv'e been trying to figure out where the other access areas are but haven't really looked around enough. Are the access above or below the park/baseball field, or are there some on both sides? I used the big bead head hares ear after reading all of Tim's reports. I was surprised at how deep some of the holes are, and the extra weight helps.

Crane is still Crane with all the storys and pics, a great creek for sure.. got to love it.. and snakes story's to boot.

Please let them go, so I can let them go, for us all to have our chance at Crane.

I was born at night, but not last night.

Odds are with the prepared...

I had the chance to go down on sunday, and again on tuesday, both days being pretty good on hares ears and squirrel tail nymphs. On sunday I fished a hopper above my nymph as an indicator, and had just as much luck on either one. Didn't catch anything spectacular, but had lots of good average fish as well as one that felt real good but broke off.

When I went down on tuesday, the snake guy pulled in the lot the same time I did.
