flyfshn Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Have a HP nc6000 laptop that is about 4 years old. Came home from work last week and my two daughters told me the laptop was beeping (keep it in the family room next to my recliner). I tried to power it up but it would not do a thing. Thought the girls ran the battery down, so I plugged it in.....nothing. Opened it up, removed the processor, ram and hard drive to reset them...no change. Any other ideas? Surfing the next on the desktop is just not the same! Fish On! Mike Utt “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery. Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted August 28, 2008 Root Admin Posted August 28, 2008 Beeping could mean it is over heating, fan out- but you say it isn't running? The battery could be shot and needs replacing.
jdmidwest Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Beeping could be the POST telling you what the problem is. Power on Self Test beeps certain codes when the motherboard receives a fatal error from the hardware. Check your memory and see if it is seated well. Go to HP website and have them trouble shoot for you. There should be a list of POST codes on there. flyfishmaster Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 flyfshn, I have to deal with about 2500 of these NC6000s on a daily basis. Here is HP's site for Trouble Shooting NC6000 There are so many potential problems that can arise, but there a few problems that really prevail: - Bad Battery (remove the battery and keep the laptop plugged into A/C) to see if it works. - CPU overheated (this is caused by dust building up on the fan and stops it from spinning) later, FFM Woo Hoo Fish On!!
