MY grandfather was not immune to trying bait for all kinds of fishing altho he was one of the first ppl that really used a lot of lures he made himself. Before the TV shows etc. I remember him using waterdogs or salamanders quite often and catching some HUGE bass and channel cats, etc.

What all have you guys tried on the lakes there? Just curious and would love to hear what you do, etc.

I do have one secret bait for huge bass, but just not gonna let that out yet. hah...Want to get down there and try it. I remember him using chicken guts, crawdads, minnows, and live frogs too.

We used to seine the river ...when there was water in it.....and got these red colored slab sided minnows. They were SO tough and stayed on the hook and very shiney. Anyone know what they were. I have not seen them anywhere else but they were superb. Also got huge pencil minnows about 6 inches long too.

Also, what is legal and illegal touse for bait.

kk,

The minnows that you used, sound like the endangered Rainbow Darter.

This was in FAR western Kansas and if they were endangered, they are dead now as there hasnt been any water in the Arkansas river west of Larned for 35 years or more..hahah..WE called them redhorse minnow.
