Just wondering if anyone uses okuma reels. I am looking for a 8-9 weight model for carpin. My 8wt reel did not hold up and the drag is spent. It was a cheap SA reel. Keep a tight line.

A friend of mine has an Okuma loaded up with 5-weight line....its a very nice looking and well-built reel I thought. The drag is adjustable and very smooth. He's been very happy with it....but he just chases trout with it...

Great reel for a great price!

I've got two Okuma Sierras and an Integrity. They are nice reels for the money. Carp will definitely put them to a test. I got mine off Ebay.

I have a Okuma Sierra S8/9 reel for my switch rod and does great. I also just chase trout with it. I don't have the drag set to any degree.

Thanks for the information guys. I think the okuma reels should be good enough I finally got to look at one and seems to be built really good.
