Members billynwtf Posted September 9, 2008 Members Posted September 9, 2008 Just wondering if anyone uses okuma reels. I am looking for a 8-9 weight model for carpin. My 8wt reel did not hold up and the drag is spent. It was a cheap SA reel. Keep a tight line.
OKFlyFisher44 Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 A friend of mine has an Okuma loaded up with 5-weight line....its a very nice looking and well-built reel I thought. The drag is adjustable and very smooth. He's been very happy with it....but he just chases trout with it... Great reel for a great price! Ham Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 I've got two Okuma Sierras and an Integrity. They are nice reels for the money. Carp will definitely put them to a test. I got mine off Ebay. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
TroutBum4wt Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 I have a Okuma Sierra S8/9 reel for my switch rod and does great. I also just chase trout with it. I don't have the drag set to any degree. "Where There Are Trout, There's Hope" - John Gierach
Members billynwtf Posted September 16, 2008 Author Members Posted September 16, 2008 Thanks for the information guys. I think the okuma reels should be good enough I finally got to look at one and seems to be built really good.
