Kayser Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Are there any fly shops in or near Rolla? I'm starting to run low on a few things, and the selection at Montauk lodge is kinda limited and a little overpriced. Anything close, or should I just wait til I get back to St. Louis to hit Hargrove's? Rob WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
twosets Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 There is a good one in further south just before you get to Bennett Springs, but that sounds like the wrong direction. "This is not Nam. This is bowling. There are rules."
Kayser Posted September 10, 2008 Author Posted September 10, 2008 Do you mean Reading's? Well, if I ever go down that way (which I hardly ever do) I'll restock there. Thanks for the info. Rob WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
jdmidwest Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Reed's Cabins outside the park has a pretty good selection and some decent prices. Great Outdoors in Carbondale has a good selection of flies and Orvis equipment. Nothing beats T Hargrove or Feathercraft in STL. flyfishmaster Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Kayser, You might want to contact Walt Fulps at MissouriTroutHunter.com. he is located in Rolla. I don't think he has a shop, but I'll sure he would be a great local resource. Come to think about it, Sam Potter is also in Rolla. You can get his info at TightLine.Biz. I hope this will help you out. Later, FFM Woo Hoo Fish On!!
Members MoTroutHunter Posted March 30, 2009 Members Posted March 30, 2009 Thanks for the shout-out FFM -- Sorry about being 6 months or so late to the party on this post. Unfortunately no legit fly shops anywhere near Rolla. Can't speak for Sam, but I do almost all my supplies shopping online. I'd probably spend a grand a year in a local shop, if one existed. There is a new tackle & archery shop in St. James on Hwy 8 -- just outside the city limits on the way to Maramec Spring Park. Haven't been in to take a look, but I hear they're stocking "some fly fishing supplies". Don't know what that means, though. There's also a Bass Pro outlet on I-44 about 10 miles west of Rolla, but not a great selection re: fly fishing. It's a real shame. Rolla is primed for a fly shop to succeed here. We've got 10 trout fishing destinations within about a 90 minute drive. Can't believe no one has figured that out yet! Anyone wanna lend me a couple hundred grand to open one up? No, really... Kayser Posted March 31, 2009 Author Posted March 31, 2009 Would if I could. But I honestly can't believe that there isn't a fly shop here. I guess that the fly-fishing population is centered around the cities and the parks, and not really in this town. Almost a crying shame, but oh well. All we can do is hope for a shop in the near future. Rob WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
Gavin Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 I'm sure that Hargrove will mail you anything you want...Just pick up the phone and call him. Cheers.
