Are there any fly shops in or near Rolla? I'm starting to run low on a few things, and the selection at Montauk lodge is kinda limited and a little overpriced. Anything close, or should I just wait til I get back to St. Louis to hit Hargrove's?

There is a good one in further south just before you get to Bennett Springs, but that sounds like the wrong direction.

Do you mean Reading's? Well, if I ever go down that way (which I hardly ever do) I'll restock there. Thanks for the info.

Reed's Cabins outside the park has a pretty good selection and some decent prices. Great Outdoors in Carbondale has a good selection of flies and Orvis equipment. Nothing beats T Hargrove or Feathercraft in STL.

Thanks for the shout-out FFM -- Sorry about being 6 months or so late to the party on this post. :P

Unfortunately no legit fly shops anywhere near Rolla. Can't speak for Sam, but I do almost all my supplies shopping online. I'd probably spend a grand a year in a local shop, if one existed. There is a new tackle & archery shop in St. James on Hwy 8 -- just outside the city limits on the way to Maramec Spring Park. Haven't been in to take a look, but I hear they're stocking "some fly fishing supplies". Don't know what that means, though. There's also a Bass Pro outlet on I-44 about 10 miles west of Rolla, but not a great selection re: fly fishing.

It's a real shame. Rolla is primed for a fly shop to succeed here. We've got 10 trout fishing destinations within about a 90 minute drive. Can't believe no one has figured that out yet! Anyone wanna lend me a couple hundred grand to open one up? No, really...

Would if I could. But I honestly can't believe that there isn't a fly shop here. I guess that the fly-fishing population is centered around the cities and the parks, and not really in this town. Almost a crying shame, but oh well. All we can do is hope for a shop in the near future.

I'm sure that Hargrove will mail you anything you want...Just pick up the phone and call him. Cheers.
