zsmith62
But that's a sea-run brown, you'd think that they'd grow much faster than landlocked trout. Zach Smith
laker67
But that's a sea-run brown, you'd think that they'd grow much faster than landlocked trout. Evidently they do. Estimated age of the argentina fish, 7 years, the arkansas fish was double that.
Trav
Here in Taney, the growth rate is much slower. It might take them three years to reach two pounds. The majority of the browns I catch are between 3 and 8 pounds. I have only caught a dozen or so over ten and have yet to catch one over 15. Those fish over 8 are easily ten years old. If not more. They could easily date back to the initial stocking. I know that there is 30 and even close 50 pound browns in Taney though. I have seen them. You can't see a foot long width with an easy 30 inch length and not think 40 plus pounds. They are stubborn though. They act like whales that feed on only plankton. No response no bite. Anyway you look at it, the next record brown will come from Taney. It is just a matter of time that some lucky guy will coax one of those big boys I have been seeing. A little notion tells me that if I eat a little more powerbait........ "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
