Members Fishing Milwright Posted October 23, 2008 Members Posted October 23, 2008 There is a safe way to use a drag chain. Attach a plastic one gallon jug to the end of the rope of the drag chain. Use plastic ties to attach the rope of the chain to the boat. If the chain catches it will break the plastic ties and the jug will keep the rope afloat and you can go back and pick up the chain and rope.

I guess it all depends on the size of your boat and zip ties you choose. I've never drifted using drag chains before but once witnessed a fellow floating a local stream dragging a gallon milk jug filled with concrete. Had it tied to the front "eye"...said it kept his boat straight slowed his float. In my minds eye...any zip tie I would choose just to support the end of a drag chain would certainly break before pulling my boat under.
