Seemed to be working real well for him I was planning on trying both methods. I have been fly fishing for about 3 years now and am starting to feel comfortable enough to try droppers, specially flies with different weights. I generally post a report so i will be sure to let you know my thoughts. -Jerod
Snow Fly Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Jerod: I sure would appreciate a quick note on how things work out on the dropper set up. Now the Sculpin this guy was using was not the heavy type with the bar-bell eyes so it would seem to have a little more movement in the water vs. a heavy streamer type. I also like dropper except when I miss the strike on the top fly and end up with a fouled fish on the trailer. Probably have them to close to each other. Tight Lines Larry You know, dropper rigs are tailor made for foul hooking fish. Another problem, that could occur, is when you hook a real trophy fish. Most big fish, especially browns, will run the bottom when they tire. If you hook the fish on the lower fly, then the upper fly travels backward through the water and the hang-ups. Not so the case when you hook the fish on the upper fly. Mr. trophy of a lifetime of a lifetime has just broke you off and is trying to free himself from some hang-up. It could be a real slow death for that trophy fish. Let's hear some other thoughts on this subject. I've never fished a multiple rig just for those reasons.
