Tom Spence Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Had some lower unit issues with it, so it is up in springfield at Center City Marine. I guess for some reason I lost a tooth on the forward gear??? It started wineing really bad then I heard a loud pop on Friday! We were way up by Camel Point area and was able to make it back to the ramp at Mill Creek and that was it.. Not too sure what happened, but G3 and Yamaha is taking care of it for me, should have it back here in a few days. So ya I'm in this rocket ZX. I feel like I'm going to fall out of it, kinda funny. I forgot what is was like to run across the lake with your rear end on fire.. Sucker is really fast! I was in the back of cow and had no luck, but of course so was everyone else that may have something to do with it? I've seen him now three times all out on the main lake in deeper water all from point 7 to Point 5, that one has me scratching my head?? I think he is going after fish that know one else has found out in deep water, but I'm just guessing.. We will see I'm going to the weight-ins all this week just to watch. Hey are you going to fish that AIA derby later this month? Should be a fun time for sure.. Good Fishing Don Hey Don, Was that the gray and white ZX with the black bottom? If so they loaned it to me for the Heartland kickoff at Lake of the Ozarks cause my boat hasn't come in yet. That thing was a rocket! Fishing Buddy Don House Posted November 6, 2008 Author Fishing Buddy Posted November 6, 2008 The lake was on fire today, well at least the area I was fishing. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the Stren boys came in with a 20 plus bag today, I know I did. Caught and released 32 bass with 75% of those quality 3 and 4 pounders with a nice 5.36 for a kicker. Cranked one cove all day. The pattern with the crank was to throw up on flats and slow crank, I mean SLOW crank the bait back keeping bottom contact. S&M what area were you playing in? We fished from DAM to Baxter and back yesterday.. Did ok.. Alot of small fish and a small limit of keeper fish on jigs, and wiggle warts in the wind.. Did have one really nice kicker smallie that pushed 5.5. Alot of the guys I talked to last night did not do that well, but I know a few did do really well.. Everything is going to change today. I'm done for a few days will go play on Saturday to get ready for a Sunday trip, should have my lake back then.. Let us know some more crankbait information if you can.. Good Fishing Don Capt. redbud Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 S&M is right fished the wind blown banks slow cranking yesterday also fished one long windy bank three times yesterday . the fish were tight to the bank or in the cedars or clumps of pole timber. Also had some real nice Ks on a slow (real slow) rolling spinner. All our fish hit hard even had a few big blue gills hit that crankbait .we dont really keep count of all the fish on a day like we had yesterday, probably had 15 to 20 keepers with a couple of solid largemouths. I sometimes dream of a day like that , yesterday was one of the best bites for us all year. Launched out of Big M and didnt travel more than 3-4 miles all day
Whack'emGood Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 S&M and Redbud, Thanks for the reports. I love throwing that crankbait! I suspect that you guys caught it just right... and the bite will change alot for today. This front should knock the Largemouths back for a few days, I suspect. Those tourney guys will probably be hunting Smallies for the next few days. Should be interesting to see what happens. We were planning on going up to Stockton on Saturday, but we may change our minds yet-- we may be coming down to TR instead. Don-- good luck with your motor problems. Good luck on the water everyone, Whack'em "Success builds confidence, and you have to learn to trust your instincts and forget about fishing the way a tournament is supposed to be won. I'm going to fish my style and make it work for me." -KEVIN VANDAM "Confidence is the best lure in your tackle box." -GERALD SWINDLE "A-Rig? Thanks, but no thanks. If I can't catch them on the conventional tackle that I already use, then I guess I just can't catch them." -LK (WHACK'EM)
MOBass Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 You guys are terrible. I had resigned myself to a nice day of trout fishing Sunday on Taney and after reading all the post I want to get back on Table Rock again. The Stren will be done and the weather will at least be stable for a few days.
Tom Spence Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 T, ya that is the one.. Terry said you used it for that tournament.. Guy is really fast for sure.. What did you buy new for next year. a new ZX? Nice boats for sure.. Talk to you later.. Don Acutally I went to Champion. Getting a 198 CX with a 225 Pro XS. It will be my first Champion but I've fished and driven a bunch and was impressed. That ZX was impressive though. It handled that rough water at Lake of the Ozarks pretty good. S&M Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 Don excuse my late reply. I have marked in red the area I caught all my fish that day. As you can see this small cove is located across from point 10. The only other thing I could add is what type of crank bait I was using, that being a #5 Strike King Sexy Shad. How do I deal with those who ignore the 50 yard encroachment rule?......I show them just how accurate I am with a crank bait!
