Found the "AntivirusPro2009" on my computer Sunday and have been trying to remove it. Several places on the web tell you how to remove it for free if you know a little about computers. Here's the deal. I do know a little about them, but this one is a butt! I cannot find it's file name or registry keys anywhere I search for them. I don't think it has fully installed because I'm not experiancing any real difficulties yet. Key word yet I think. Wondering if I should use system restore and if that will actually work or just hide it for awhile. Any takers on this one?

ollie, my daughter's laptop caught this within the first week of going to college this Fall. It is a real #$%&@!

The computer spent a week with the university technicians who ended up handing it back and saying that she should erase the hard drive. Wasn't willing to give up, I spent a lot of time and trial trying to remove it. Finally ended up with Malwarebytes Anti-malware program which appears to have done the trick <fingers crossed>. No problems since installing it two months ago. Hope this helps.

PS: I just used the free download version.

Thanks for the reply. I downloaded the free scan version of that program also, but don't remember it removing the virus. The red "x" on the lower right hand toolbar disappered and doesn't give me annoying alerts, but I can't get rid of the shortcut on my desktop. I haven't been getting real problems so maybe I'm ok. I hope.

It is a pain in the butt, you will probably have to restart in safe mode to get rid of it. Run the Malwarebytes program in Safe Mode and it may clean the registry entries. To get to Safe Mode, as the computer is starting up with the black screen, press F8 until the option menu comes up. Select the first one on the list, it loads Windows without all of the drivers and should bypass the Malware in registry. Run Malware Bytes or search the registry for the infected parts from here and you should get rid of it.

It is not really a virus, it is Malware.

what happens when you click delete on the shortcut that is on your desktop...whats the error message......if it says access denied then if you know anything about command line you should try going in and remove any attributes that file has....you should be able to delete it then if not then it has some sort of permission set on it that ya need to remove
