Guest kevinkirk Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 I am wanting to find out about getting a deer lease down there. What does that cost, typically? I am bow hunter mostly and very particular and usually pass on most deer. Killed so many I just like to hunt mostly. Has to be a GOOD one to make me pull the string.
Zack Hoyt Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 I have looked at leases this year and decided I really dont care to PAY to hunt. I do have access to other acreage, so its not so detrimental to me. Zack Hoyt OAF Contributor Flies, Lies, and Other Diversions
denjac Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 We have thousands of acres of public hunting down here so leases dont come into play much. Also just do it the ole fashioned way just go ask the property owner to hunt 50% will say yes. Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. Guest kevinkirk Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 I also have enough duck and goose decoys to sink a small fleet of boats if anyone wants to team up for that next fall or in the spring. Not sure of your seasons down there. I thot I might have to pay as I dont know anyone down there. I have so much area to hunt here and that worries me most of all. I am not much of a danger to the population as I wont shoot anything but HUGE and that is pretty rare to find and even rarer to get a shot at with a bow. Its about the HUNT. Same with Fishing. I love to fish but dont care to kill them OR clean them much anymore. Since MY WIFE got me into the DO NOT FRY stage...mode....etc.......fish just isnt the same. Nothing like fried crappie, walleye etc. Even a good clean channel cat is good. My dad cans trout and THAT IS GOOD...like salmon and bones just dissolve. SOMEONE tell me bout eating Suckers..what do they taste like. Carp? I have eaten that once. Boney as heck.
hoglaw Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 Kevin: You should learn how to blacken fish if you don't do it already. It's a great substitute for fried. I pretty much eat whatever I want, and I prefer blackened catfish to fried almost any time. You need a good quality skillet, or cast iron. Just dredge the fish through melted butter (margarine if you're health conscious), apply blackening seasoning liberally, and toss onto a super-heated skillet. If the fish sticks, your skillet isn't hot enough. Shake it around a few times to make sure the fish is sliding on the dry skillet. Do not use any oil or pam. If your fillets are thick, butterfly them to make them thinner. It's all about searing the outside without overcooking the fish. It's healthier and much easier than frying fish, and you can do it to feed one or two as opposed to getting all the stuff together for a big fry.
Dutch Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 Those that I know about go for Bow $100 deer only. Deer and turkey $175. Add rifle deer and shotgun turkey $500.
Guest kevinkirk Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 Thats not too bad. I have never had to pay before since I know so many ppl out here. But if I end up living there, I will have to start somewhere.?
