Talked to Bill Sheriff the other day. He and his wife Roberta sold their resort of 24 years to a developer that is going to raze the place to build condos.

Another family resort bites the dust.

I don't know Phil, but I think the wrong people are at the helm in Branson. The biggest complaint one hears from people is that its too crowded and they don't go anymore, yet the answer from the city fathers seems to be that they need more growth, but 76 still crawls and on some weekends the other main thorough fares do also.

The new businesses coming in seem to be nothing but competition for the old. I think what the city needs is a new leadership that works toward preserving whats been built, instead of building what they probably can't maintain.

Thats my opinion any way. :D

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

I agree. The alderman and administrators don't seem to have a lick of sense and they don't listen to anyone.

Phil -

Don't most of these new ideas come from money ? It takes money to make money.

This is " new " money with " new " directions. Do I agree.. I don't know.. but there aint no stopping it.

it's the american way

Guys, as most of you know, my wife and I just completed a life long dream of a bed and breakfast out on Table Rock. Now with the influx of condos it really makes it tough. There are adds Running out there for 2 bedroom jacuzzi condo suites with fireplaces, show tickets and SDC tickets going for $250.00 per week. We have even seen 3 nights stay for free, with the same free tickets. All they are looking for is numbers, like Phil said it is new money with new ideas, comimg from corporations that losses are fine as long as dollars are generated.

Breakeven is more than good. High prussure sales are the norm and complaints are rampaid. We have had both Taney and Stone county officials at the lodge and they say the complaints on the high prussure sales are huge. The deals are so good just to get the folks in that they can't refuse, and once they have you, getting away is a nightmare. I think we are in for a wild ride

I have to say that the United States was built on the morals of small business owners. I have to say that I hate to see Branson grow so much, I do understand that people do make alot of money from the toursim. As a small business owner I would think that the alderman would look at the situation, and realize the they are running people off because the have uncontrolled growth. The city needs to look at how they can handle the traffic in a better way soon they will be backed up to the dam . I know that I do not like to sit in traffic when I'm on vaction. I think that the small busisness owners should start telling people how they are being pushed out of town do to the large corporations taking over. Who would have thought that you could take a parcel of land with a slope on it of 30-40% and put a building on it. I would like to know what they have in place to control the snaitary and storm sewers with all of this growth, can the current plant handle the load. Nice big condos want to have a nice looking place first thing they want outside is green grass lots of fertilizer to make and keep it green, where does the excess go? I have an idea two words Table Rock I have to think that is the old farm boy comming out in me. I think that we should load the alderman up on a bus and take them to the great state of Kansas and so them some of the irrigation ponds and how they really support nothing because the ph is so out of wack. That might be fun !

I really don't like to dwell on the negative- so I won't post much on the development in Branson. I think it's unstopable- it is the way of progress. The convention center is needed if you want to bring more people here and compete with other convention venues in the country. Branson has to stay ahead of the curve to compete. I understand all that.

I have a problem where they located the convention site. It's not about the lake necessarily- it's about the smartest place to put it. I think it should have gone out off Gretna/Shepherd of the Hills area- out where there's not much development- easy to get in and out to major roads/areas. Instead they spent alot of money buying up property and businesses and homes on land that's cramped and hard to get in and out of... no room for expansion unless you buy more land/buildings/businesses. Being on a lake a lake is nice but will it bring one extra person because it's on water and not on a hill? I don't think so.

Condos- it does matter... to me and it should to others. If you treat people right, do the best with your property you can, people will come back to it- seek it out. It's the personal touch that matters- condo don't do that for people. They have their place- but so does B&B's and family-oriented resorts... and there are many of us left.

Branson is still the best place because of it's people- very friendly for the most part... unlike other vacation places I've been to.

I'm sure you are right and that's the best way to look at it. We all are afraid of change and like the status-quo. I know we will continue to do all we can to make our guest feel like family.

Most of this right now is speculation and we are all very concerned about upper taney which for me is one of the main reasons besides our wonderful native people for being here.

We could have built anywhere but love our neighbors and friends in the branson area. It is truely home.
