Members thunderbutt Posted November 27, 2008 Members Posted November 27, 2008 info in first post as to locations are in most part true. in slow moving rivers. as fast and as high as the white has been up around bull shoals. you might anchor but not with 8 pumps going. in a jon boat a larger deep vee. you might do it . i just moved to AR in July. the white ever go down and slow down ? pretty darn hard to fish from shore.LOL
laker67 Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 This happened to me back in the late 70's. Jim McGowin and I rented a boat from the old "Neversails" boat dock. We found 2 good rainbows laid up close to Gaston's. Water was off, so we anchored and began drifting to the larger of the 2 fish. We were so intent on fishing that the rising water caught us off guard. The anchor was wedged and we were afraid to use the motor to try to free it. Luckily Jim had a knife that was sharp enough to cut the rope. We later had to reimburse the boat dock for the anchor. Even anchoring with the water off can be trouble. I have never trout fished from a boat after that day. I can leave the boat fishing to those with some experience at fishing moving water.

My boating experiences on tailwaters have not been pleasant either. I've had a couple of scary situations happen to me too. More power to those that like fishing them from boats but I prefer wading. bclift65706 Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 hung an anchor below the dam at Truman with all flood gates open pulled a 21 ft pontoon down enough for water to come on deck before we got the rope cut (about 10 seconds). I learned a lesson that day then about a month later I was fishing the Osage Fork dragging a windo weight dident pull it in going through some current and the next thing I know I was sunk in 3 ft of water. It took a couple of times for me to learn not to use them in strong current. I havent took the boater saftey course. Does anyone know if this subject is on the test.
